It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Joseph Toomey who was called to heaven on January 10, 2025 at the age of 58.

Dennis was born on November 28, 1966 in Dorchester, MA to Thomas and Kathy Toomey.

He was a devoted member of Saint Patrick’s Church, Huntington, NY and lived his faith with a deep commitment to prayer and service to the church.

Dennis was predeceased by: his father, Thomas Toomey; his mother-in-law, Marie Antoinette (Toni) Irvine; and his sister-in-law, Kristy Irvine Ryan.

He is survived by: his wife, Wendy Toomey of Huntington, NY; his daughter, Kristin Merrigan (Michael) of Boston, MA; his sons, Jack, Dean and Nicholas Toomey of Huntington, NY; his siblings, Mary Toomey of Alexandria, VA, Laura Johnson (Danny) of Barrington, RI and Tom Toomey (Katie) of Ridgewood, NJ; his mother, Kathy Toomey of Naples, FL; and his father-in-law, Stuart Irvine of Huntington, NY.

Dennis graduated from Christian Brothers Academy, Albany NY in 1984 and Providence College in 1988 where he met his wife Wendy. His first job was with United States Gypsum in Atlanta, GA, where he lived for a couple of years before relocating to Knoxville, TN. Dennis and Wendy were married in the summer of 1993 and proceeded to jump around the East coast before returning to Huntington shortly after 9/11. Dennis remained in the construction materials industry throughout his career, ending with Sika Emseal as Sales Manager of the Northeast Region. Sika turned out to be his favorite job.

Dennis was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March 2024 and fought his illness with faith, courage and integrity. He centered his life around God and family. He was the most hardworking, loving man who cared and provided for his loved ones…always putting himself last. He cherished his friends and his dog Scout. He was always up for a good time, watching a game, going out to dinner, and spending time at Lake George with his family.

Dennis’ devotion to Jesus and The Blessed Mother flourished over time and became an integral part ofhis daily life. He had a very strong will and fought to
the end. His spirit remained unbroken, anchored by his unwavering faith.
