It is with great sadness to hear of Ed Matthews’s passing. In 1987, I had my first opportunity to work for him. He taught me how to be the voice for individuals with disabilities; he taught me that the history of disabilities and advocacy is invaluable. He is the reason why I received my Masters in Disability Studies at CUNY SPS. My condolences.

Ed served brilliantly on many Boards in the I/DD community and his leadership and knowledge made such a positive impact on the individuals at these organizations. Beyond that, he cared deeply for people. He cared for the mission- the individuals and families that we serve. He will be remembered for many, many accomplishments and accolades AND his personality, including his wit, humor, and charm. Ed truly was a great man.
Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to Ed's family during this difficult time.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Ed’s family.
Thank you for sharing Ed with us for all of these years! He created an environment that encouraged and praised all who participated. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love and allowing me to be myself in the process…
Rest in peace Ed
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

My heartfelt condolences to Ed's family, friends, and all who loved him. My time at UCP-NYC is one that I'll remember with appreciation. Although it seems like so very long ago, the experience is still fresh in my mind. What we created together, engaging luminaries and captains of industry, is part of the organization's standout history. Thank you for the opportunity for which I am proud to have been a part. Rest in peace, Ed Matthews.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Ed’s passing and my deepest sympathy goes to Ed’s family and Linda. Ed was a great visionary, mentor and counselor and I was privileged to be a “great friend” His courage during the last 9 months has been amazing and his will to be admired. Ed was witty, profound, caring, smart and confident which made him a great leader. Clearly he cared about and knew something about employees at all levels of the organization he led successfully for many years. His passion for enriching the lives of people with disabilities was unsurpassed.
My prayers are with the family and for eternal peace for Ed. He will be missed and always remembered with great fondness.
Lovingly ,
Anita Porco

My condolences to the Matthews family, Linda and the Adapt team. I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ed Matthews. Ed was a remarkable person, who I knew to be generous, with a quick wit, and notably, an unwavering dedication to advancing services for people with disabilities. I feel fortunate to have shared time with him at numerous meetings, events and conferences and especially enjoying a fine meal together. He will be greatly missed,
and his legacy will continue to inspire us all.
