I never met Virginia, but we became friends when she sent my wonderful Riley to me. We would text back and forth, telling Airedale stories. She enjoyed hearing stories about Riley's antics and seeing silly photos of him.She was a kind, thoughtful person who made a big difference in my life. I am forever grateful to her for her friendship and for bringing Riley into my life.

My condolences to all of Virginia's family and friends. I first met Virginia when she took over the reins of the rescue group from Candy. She brought my first Airedale,Tammy, into my life and then my second, Chloe. She was always so kind and caring to everyone and although I didn't see her often, she always greeted me warmly and was always concerned about how I was doing. Her work spoke for itself and I am honored to have known her.

I met an Airedale dog when I was visiting family in Florida a few months ago. I continue to learn about all types of dogs and interact with dog owners every opportunity that I have as these animals are of great interest to me. I offer my sympathies to Virginia's family. This funeral home is located in my neighborhood just down the street. May you rest in blessed peace.

Many many years ago we had the pleasure of Virginia gracing our grounds. She would befriend every Guest and introduce her dogs as 'family'. Over the years, we've had the pleasure of spending much time with Stephen and Virginia and went from "Guests" to "Friends" with many of the staff. We just always believed - as she did - that she would come out of this and make her way back up to Interlaken. Our hearts are certainly broken from this abrupt news. Tonight we serve pecan-encrusted chicken in our restaurant in her honor and hope she gets served her favorite dish in heaven anytime she wants. We will miss you terribly, V.
With much love - Kevin, Michelle, Eric, Ryan, Winston and all of your friends at Interlaken.

We are so sad to hear of this news of your beloved Virginia. We have very long lasting and fond memories of both Virginia and Steven and her Airedales for many, many years now. As a part of her beloved canine community; Virginia was very instrumental in bringing us fantastic opportunities of sharing wonderful gladness among our club's many varied events. She was always a permanent fixture on all things 'Airedale' for the ATCMNY. We will always thank her for that connection and will keep her close to our hearts in prayer. May she rest in peace now.

I really enjoyed our get togethers at Montgomery. I think all the Airedale’s rescued us and we came together and made lasting friendships. We will miss you Virginia!

I am without words. Virginia was my friend and partner in rescue across the state. Even when she felt awful, she got dogs into rescue. I remember with such fondness our work to get Otis into rescue and to Jacqueline Fearer . Virginia was responsible for getting the essential commitment from the dog warden and boy was he committed to success after a few conversations with the persuasive Virginia.
Virginia, you gave so many dogs a forever future and your kindness leaves many memories. My thoughts go out to Stephan, the entire family, and all who loved her. Thinking of Basil, too. and Basil, too.

My heart goes out to Stephen and Virginia's siblings and nieces and nephews. You lost a wonderful woman. Virginia Slowik has been my close friend since April 2003. I placed Saxon, a young Rescue dog, with her and Stephen. I remember that day when I brought him to them and she made me lunch, pasta fagioli. That was a first time that an adopter offered me lunch. We spent several hours visiting and me watching them interact with Saxon. It wasn't long before Virginia and Stephen became good friends, like family. What a gift an Airedale brought into my life - a lifelong friend. We spoke almost every day and sometimes given the situation, we might speak for just a minute or two and that was it. She took over ATCMNY Airedale Rescue and Adoption when I left NY to move to Maryland and was a strong supporter of ATCMNY volunteering in many capacities. I'm not going to say a 17 1/2 yr old friendship is gone. I believe it lives on. She put up a strong fight the past year, year and a half trying to overcome physical obstacles caused by this disease, cancer, and the side effects wrought by chemo. The only consolation in this loss is that my friend is now pain free and reunited in Heaven with her parents and her beloved Saxon, her first Airedale. Her death has left a deep deep hole in my life. I miss you, VA, but we will meet again someday, my friend. I saw her about a year ago this time before she started her radiation. It's the last time I saw her other than the photos she sent me of her journey. I borrowed the saying below from an Airedale website:
Your life was a blessing
Your memory a treasure
You are loved beyond words,
And missed beyond measure.

Virginia is a loving soul. Over the years, I walked with her and Saxon and Basil. She was helping me with MY two "babies": Katie and Molly. I don't know how she was able to control them. Virginia was always happy; she walked, walked, walked in the neighborhood. God Bless her always.
