To the Glen Cove gang, I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. She was a genuinely kind and loving Aunt who was always able to offer a positive outlook and sage advice. Aunt Sal and Uncle Lew were always beyond wonderful to the Larsen family and made those summer reunions full of joyous recollections. For all who were fortunate enough to know them, we can be truly thankful for the fantastic and joyful memories created by their involvement in our lives.

Sally was my father’s first cousin. Her mother and and my father’s mother were close. We saw her in Plano and owned adjoining farms-part of a larger farm put together by Sally’s grandfather. We saw in Plano and she was always fun and interesting-part of the glamorous Lord girls. Sally and I had many conversations about what might happen to the farm-there were several possibilities in the early 2000’s that we talked about at length. I also remember well visiting her at her house on Long Island the year I was a freshman at Amherst. Long Island seemed like a very sophisticated place to a boy from small town Illinois. Then, very luckily, I had a day with her a couple of years ago. We had a great day-visiting in the morning and them having a nice family get together for a nice dinner. (Dinner being what in the old days the farm people called lunch). What a brilliant engaging and beautiful lady. I feel honored to have been her kin. Pete Henning

We love you so much, Grandma. You will always be in our hearts. We can’t wait to share the genealogy of the Bodi and Lord families with our daughter in the coming years. I remember the times we sat to review our lineage at night in one of the big binders before bed. We cried after reading one of our ancestor’s sad poems and marveled over stories about Wild Bill Hickok. These are the moments we will cherish and share with our kids. We love you.

I've loved Sally, and the Bodi clan, since I was a little girl growing up in Glen Cove, going to the school where Sally counseled, and visiting her down the street from my own grandparents. It was always a joy to walk Whitney Circle with a stop to see Sally, and of course, Papa Lew. I loved their humor, their intellect, and their sense of commitment. Sally believed in me, and helped me believe in myself. She came to my school plays, she rejoiced when I went away to college, and even tolerated me when I became a lawyer (one step against her sage advice!). I know she gave that gift to many other children too -- in her own family and throughout the town. Her life told a story of bravery and love, and she lived it with a deep sense of history and pride.
Thank you Sally, for sharing your time here with me. Thank you for the inspiration, and the care. Thank you for your friendship across three generations (maybe even four!) of Beckhards. I love you, I admire you, and I will miss you always.
Love,
Kimmy

To My Sweet Sally,
Behind the Masks. 4.5.2020
Is this real
Are we here
Did you not hear
In your ear
It’s quite clear
Foot steps gone
Stay alone
A global stop
What we can’t see
Silently stealing
The lovely ones
Memories in stone
Look to the stars
So many tears
So many fears
See you in my dreams
Sweet Sally mom
My second mom
See you in my dreams
Love you deeply
Susan
This is the final draft of a poem I wrote in with Sally in my minds eye. I am truly sorry that all of us have such a huge deep painful loss. To all the Bodi’s our friends that we have had in our lives since the day I knocked on the door. I remember so clearly my mom saying I heard a family moved in up the street with kids! I quickly walked up the street to the house on Whitney Circle went to the back door.. rang the doorbell. I was greeted by Sally... I said I heard you have children my age?
Sally said I certainly do.. how lucky the Beckhard’s were to be a part of the Bodi family. That was 55 years ago - of course we all share many, many stories.
Friends for Forever
Love you all- Susan

Our dear sweet Sally, the memories abound. The Bodis and the Beckhards meshed forever as one.
I remember so vividly our conversations and your reassurances when I worried about my boys. I will never forget the confidence you gave me when Alex was still insistent about hanging onto his baby bottle at the (gasp) age of three. You told me to look around- that everyone is walking around with a bottle! Poland Spring in every hand! I laughed, and then you added wisely, “Besides, he won’t still have it when he’s walking up for his diploma at his high school graduation.” His diploma is now nearly in hand, graduating this Spring, confident and talented and smart. Thank you.
And I always loved your funny tale of how when I was a Pre-schooler I served as one of your test subjects when you were studying for your Doctorate. It was the days of home dairy delivery and your question “What comes in a bottle?” surely deserved the answer “Milk” but 3 year old me triumphantly proclaimed “Wine!”
And so I raise -not a glass, but a bottle- to you, Dear Sally, for the love and comforts you brought to me and my family over the years. Rest In Peace and Love.

The Levine/Bodi relationship traced back to Brooklyn College in the 1950's. Albert and Lew quit on the same day and went to work at Sylvania in Bayside. From there Dad went to the College of Staten Island and Lew went to York College. Our families remained close through all those years. I fondly remember all the holidays that we spent together in Glen Cove and Whitestone. We were family. Sally was a beautiful woman in all ways. We were blessed to have been able to join in her 90th birthday celebration. RIP Aunt Sally.

Sara Bodi will always be Grandma Sally to me. I’m incredibly fortunate to have had such an amazing woman love and support me my entire life. Sally has always been so generous to all of her family and friends but especially her grandchildren (she almost always had a gift for them if she hadn’t seen one of them for a while). Childhood trips to New York from Texas to visit grandma and grandpa were something I looked forward to every year. When I was going through college in Maryland I continued making trips to Glen Cove to visit Grandma Sally and my Papa Lew. Those trips were and still are so important to me because I was always at home with them, just me and them. I got to continue some of my college trips to Dix Hills after Sally moved there to spend one on one time with her. She was always excited to update me on everyone in the family and what they were up to as well as family ancestry. I keep safe my family history/ancestry binder that Sally made for me with family member journal entries, newspaper clippings, and the like. There is no doubt that Sally was a very proud grandmother, mother, sister, and friend who loved her family very much. She is already dearly missed. We love you very much Grandma Sally and know that you are watching out over all of us.

The Bodi/Beckhard family dynamic has always been and will always be so important to me and my entire family. My heart goes out to all of you at this terribly difficult time.
My (Aunt) Sally was one of the most influential people and a constant in my life from the age of 8. Her love, kindness, intelligence, guidance and friendship has meant the world to me. So much of her advice went into the parenting of my girls and continues with my grandsons. Kim, Lisa and I loved her so much and are completely heartbroken. We all hold her close to our hearts where she will live forever.
Thinking of you all every day. Love you, Karen

Mom, I will miss your listening skills, your ability to analyze my issues and put me on the right path, your empathy, and your tolerance of calls at any time day or night. I will also miss your calm demeanor and your way of seeing everything in a positive light. Thank you for being such an amazing mother, confidante, and friend. I will love you to infinity and beyond. Thank you for all you have done for me and my family and for being such a solid influence in my life.

Sally Bodi was a wonderful mother-in-law. A real tiger mom for all her children, grandchildren and sons and daughters-in-law. She warmly welcomed me into the Bodi family nearly forty years ago as Betsy's new boyfriend, and did it with grace and understanding. As many of you know, there are many strong personalities in this clan and Sally managed them with elan and grace. As a blue blood mid westerner she had certain ideas about things that ran counter to those of most of her brood. She always listened patiently to these counterviews, but I don't believe was ever much moved by the arguments of Lew and the others. When it came to family, they were always on the same page and you couldn't ask for a more tireless and dedicated team of advocates. Sally's passing has left a hole in our world that won't be filled. We will lean on our many memories of her to move forward. I have the deepest sympathy for Kip, Sari, Betsy and Nanny, and heir families. It hurts to lose your Mom and grandma and my mother-in-law. We grieve together.
