Carol Ann Pokowicz

 May 5, 1945 to April 17, 2019

Carol Ann Pokowicz was born on May 5, 1945 to Benjamin and Ann Aquilla in Graves End Brooklyn. Carol was the middle child of three girls they raised in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from St. Nicholas Catholic High School in 1963. She married Stephen Alexander Pokowicz on December 5, 1964. They were married for 41 years until his passing in 2006. Together they raised four children. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning April 17th surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Carol was a friend to many and “mother” to us all. She was known for her hospitality which included many delicious home cooked gastronomic creations. She took those skills and became a local caterer who helped many families celebrate their anniversaries, graduations, weddings and religious achievements. As for her own home, 25 Sherman Street was the place where all our family members, friends and neighbors would meet. The Pokowicz house was the site for dozens of graduation and surprise parties and the most cherished annual Christmas Day celebration. Thousands of people passed through her home never leaving hungry or thirsty.

Carol was an amazing woman who helped counsel many friends and family members in their time of need. Though not formally educated she was a “Magna Cum Laude” graduate of the “University of Life”. She always had a warm heart and open ear and was able to decipher all the relevant facts to provide sound advice and direction.

Carol loved to laugh and dance the night away especially to the songs of “Celebration” and “We are Family” while enjoying her favorite cocktail “The Rusty Nail” and puffing on a “Luck Strike”. She was the go to person for party ideas and gourmet foods. She will be missed by all those of us who were lucky to have shared her extraordinary life.

Carol was devoted wife and a proud mother who is survived by her four children; daughter Stephanie Gotard and husband David of Huntington, NY, son Dr. Stephen Pokowicz of Dunmore, PA, son Anthony Pokowicz and wife Julie of Northport, NY, daughter Michele Pokowicz of New York, NY. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Katherine Gotard, Lauren Gotard, Jack Pokowicz and Eva Pokowicz. She has two sisters Elaine Squillace and husband Alexander of Huntington, NY and Denise Francese and husband Enrico of Huntington Station, NY. Her nieces and nephews include Paul Squillace, John Squillace, Annemarie Feola, Danielle Mullahy, Jennifer Hawkes & Jaqueline Gorman.
