John A Nidds, Educator, Dies at 87.
John A. Nidds died on January 11, 2019, peacefully surrounded by his wife, Ellie, and four children. He lived an active and fulfilling life until he succumbed to an injury sustained from a fall.
Jack was born on December 1, 1931 in Flushing, NY and enjoyed his life there with his brothers, Bob and Ray, and his sister, Madeline. He attended Fordham Prep, Fordham University (BA), Queen’s College (MA) and St. John’s University (Doctorate). He served as an officer in the US Marine Corp from 1952-1954.
Dr. Nidds took great pride in his career as an educator, which began as a teacher at Walt Whitman High School, South Huntington, and on as a Principal of Stimson Junior High for the next 25 years. He continued his career as a tenured Professor at Dowling College for the next 25 years, where he loved sharing his experiences as an educator with future teachers.
Jack married his beloved wife of 62 years, Ellen Fenlon Nidds. They moved to Huntington, NY, where they raised their 4 children, Kerriann Reilly, (Thomas), Sally Morris (Paul), Maggie Holland (Jim) and John Nidds (Amy). He and Ellie loved spending time with their 15 grandchildren, Kathryn Reilly Bielicky (Mark), Elizabeth Reilly, Michael Morris, engaged to Kacie Overlander, Maggie Reilly, Kieran Morris, engaged to Jacklyn Esernio, Hannah Holland, Quinn Morris, Jane Holland, Annie Reilly, Liam Morris, William Holland, Patrick Holland, Jack Nidds III, Colin Nidds, Catherine Nidds, and two beloved great-grandchildren, Declan and Regan Bielicky.
Faith played an important role in Jack’s life, as a member of St. Patrick’s RC Church. He loved his life in Huntington and the wonderful lifelong friendships he and Ellie enjoyed.
