Patricia (Patsy) Elizabeth Lamerson

March 14, 1938 - January 12, 2025

Born Patricia Elizabeth Mullin to Virginia Isabel Holland and John Norris Mullin and raised in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.  Patsy (as she insisted that everyone call her) attended elementary school at Our Lady Help of Christians in Flatbush followed by James Madison High School.  Patsy followed her sisters into a career in nursing, earning her degree from Brooklyn Hospital.

Nursing eventually lead Patsy out to Huntington where she worked at Huntington Hospital.  It was at Huntington Hospital that a handsome doctor would leave love notes under the windshield wipers of her VW Beatle.  Patsy married that doctor, Owen Perry Lamerson on June 9, 1962.  Owen became the first of Patsy’s four great passions in her life, later joined by Motherhood, golf and life-long learning.

A dedicated mother to six children—Paul, Peter, Patrick, Matthew, Susan and Meaghan—Patsy was especially fierce in protecting her children’s educational success.  When she realized that several of her children had issues preventing them from performing up to their potential in school, she sought out and found experts in the very new field of dyslexia and learning disabilities.  In addition to all the car trips for sports (she never missed a little league game) and social engagements, Patsy made sure that her children got to their tutoring and therapy sessions.

Golf was Patsy’s personal passion.  After taking up the sport late in life she worked diligently to improve her game eventually becoming a competitive golfer at a high level.  Patsy’s home course was the Huntington Country Club, where in addition to individual and team competitions she served on the Women’s Golf Committee, becoming chairperson for several seasons.  Patsy served the greater tristate area when she joined the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association.  Through the WMGA Patsy served on the Long Island Board of Directors as editor of their newsletter “Tee-Talk” in 1986 and 1987 and volunteered with the group that performed the official rating of the courses on Long Island in the late 80’s and early 90’s.  The WMGA described Patsy’s contribution as, “Invaluable in ensuring equity for all golfers.”  Patsy’s greatest and hardest fought golf achievement was finally winning the Huntington Country Club Women’s Championship, in 1983 and 1987.

The last of Patsy’s great passions was life-long learning.  Patsy taught herself knitting, sewing, gourmet cooking, furniture making and room framing.  Every newborn in her sphere was wrapped in a handmade swaddling blanket.  Every new home had custom drapes and sofa pillows.  And if you needed your bathroom updated or even better, a wall taken down, Patsy was your go-to.  Even as she slowed down, any upcoming visit from a friend, child or grandchild would require a new recipe to be printed out and the bread machine put into action.  It was through cooking crafting and carpentry that Patsy shared her love.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband Owen, son Paul, and sister Virgina. Patricia is survived by her sisters Joan and Mary, her brother John, her children Peter, Patrick, Matthew, Susan, Meaghan, and her thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
