Obituary of Joan A. Lineen
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan A. Lineen (age 84) passed away on December 13, 2024, in Melville, NY. She was the beloved wife of the late John Lineen---and loving mother of Linda Hyman (Steven), Joan-Anne Weydener (Ronald deceased), Karen (deceased), and John Lineen (Gina). She was also the adoring grandmother of Lauren (Chris Schiro), Julie (Ross Perry), Meagan, Nicole (Mike Rubcewich), Christopher, Kristina, and Johnny, dear great grandmother of Charlotte, Madeleine, and Delaney, cherished sister of Irene Schuler, and niece of Jean Elsbeck.
Joan was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. She was a lively and adventurous child that kept her family on their toes. As a teenager she met the love of her life, John. They married and lived the first seven years of their wedded life in the Bronx. Joan loved her time in the Bronx with her young family, where she grew very close to John’s large close knit & fun Irish family, she grew to love them as her own. While living in the Bronx, Joan and John had three children----Linda, Joan-Anne, and Karen, who they lost at 6 weeks old.
Before the girls started school, Joan and John moved to Melville, closer to Joan’s family. Little John arrived a couple of years later to complete their family. In Melville, she lived the typical Italian family life, Sunday family dinners at Gramp’s, Bocchi ball tournaments, and everyone in and out of each other’s house’s day and night. Joan devoted her life to raising her family, gardening, mastering different skills, and with her grandfather’s help, she regraded and redesigned their new backyard. She also enjoyed many hobbies including decorating, kaffeeklatching with the neighborhood ladies, softball, crocheting, and calligraphy to name a few. John travelled a lot for work and inevitably whenever he was on one of his trips, there was a new project going on within their home. He never knew what he was going to return to.
Family was always Joanie’s number one priority. However, as her children grew into young adults, Joan returned to the workplace. She prided herself on eventually “always becoming a manager” at each place of employment. Before she retired, she coordinated and opened a new location for the New York Blood Center where she had been employed for many years. Also, it should be noted that she maintained many beautiful friendships from her years of working. Jennifer, a very good and lasting friendship from the New York Blood Center. And from when she worked at the Dominican Village, Mary, her bestie for the remainder of her life!
Joan had a love of family that was unparalleled and was a fierce mama bear whenever the situation warranted. She loved championing the underdog and was always looking out for anyone she felt was in need. She adored and lived for her grandchildren, all of whom could tell you stories that would make your heart smile.
In addition to her family, Joan had a love of people and found joy in making people smile. She was always engaging strangers and had a knack for “creating” a party in most situations. As she grew older Joan had a lot of “favorite” doctors, who without a doubt returned the “favorite” status as she won their hearts----one and all. Joan had a love of music (Elvis was her 2nd main man) and dancing! Her signature dance move creation lovingly became known as “the Joanie” within her family circle.
Joan was cherished and will be missed…she has however left so many fun and unforgettable memories that she will never be forgotten. We love you forever, Mom, Mom-in-law, Grandma, Grammy, GG.
