Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

August 24, 1946 – October 6, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Gilmore, abeloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the community, who passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, at the age of 78. Jerry’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to family, service, and his community, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Debbie; his devoted daughters Lauryn Koke (Garrett) and Courtney Hurlbutt (Dave); and his adoring grandchildren Sienna, Alex, Grayson, Landon, and Bryce. His family was his greatest joy, and he took immense pride in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Jerry’s 39½-year career with the Suffolk County Police Department was a testament to his dedication and integrity. Starting as a patrol officer, he rose through the ranks to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and ultimately served as President of the Superior Officers Association. Throughout his career, Jerry was known for his leadership, professionalism, and his commitment to his fellow officers. His legacy of service and sacrifice will be remembered by all who worked with him.

A proud Irishman, Jerry was honored in 2009 as Irishman of the Year by the Suffolk County Emerald Society, a recognition of his contributions to the community and his love for his heritage. He had the distinct honor of leading his fellow officers down 5th Avenue in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, an experience that filled him with great pride.

Beyond his professional life, Jerry was a passionate sports fan, with a deep love for the New York Yankees, New York Knicks, and New York Giants. He could often be found cheering on his teams with enthusiasm and dedication, a passion he shared with his family. Another love was playing golf daily with his friends and family.

Jerry’s legacy of integrity, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a man of great character, a devoted family man, and a friend to all. His absence will be felt deeply, but his memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of sharing in his life.
