Marilyn C. Price
January 2, 1937 – August 3, 2024
Marilyn was born in the original Huntington Hospital, the small brick building that still stands today next to the current hospital. The beginning of her 87 years of being a lifelong Huntington resident. She was the second of three daughters of Charles and Caroline Indiere. Marilyn was always the outspoken one of the three sisters. Always the boss and protector of Joan and Linda! When the girls were very young, their father tragically passed away. This was the beginning of the lesson they learned that family came first, everyone sticks together and helps each other out. A creed they always lived by. In her younger days, Marilyn was involved in dance, volleyball, bowling and the 21 club. She was married and had two children, a son, Chuck, and a daughter, Cheri, whom she raised in Huntington. Their friends were always made to feel welcome in her home, day or night. She worked as a telephone operator for NY Telephone and later AT&T. After her retirement, she worked as an office assistant at Hilaire Nursing Home. You would often find Marilyn playing bingo, solitaire, doing a word search puzzle or in the mall! She LOVED shopping! It wouldn’t be a shock if you opened a Christmas gift and there was a receipt dated July. Marilyn loved collections! If she knew you liked something, she would buy it for you…. all the time! She had a fondness for koala bears and snowmen….. so…many.. snowmen…that she displayed year-round in a curio cabinet. Marilyn loved planning parties. Especially bridal and baby showers for her sister, daughter, daughter-in-law, friends and co-workers. She was so excited to “pull off a surprise” for the guest of honor and make sure everyone had a great time and got lots of presents! With her companion Frank, she enjoyed traveling to Virginia and Florida among other places. She even started riding roller coasters in her 50s! No matter where she went, you could be sure that she came home with souvenirs for everyone. (The guitar shaped fly swatter from Nashville was a classic!) She was thrilled to see both Chuck and Cheri marry Linda and John. All she ever wanted was to see her children happy. Nicknamed “The General” by her son-in-law, she did not see it as an insult, she wore it proud, as she embraced her take charge nature. If one had to describe Marilyn in one word, it would be “loyal”. If she liked you, you would be protected for life, if she did not, you would know! There would be that look, and the rolling of her big eyes and it was game over, and she rarely changed her mind. She answered to several names over the years: Marilyn, Mom, Aunt Marilyn, Mrs. Price and The General. However, her favorite name was “Grandma”. She was blessed with three amazing grandchildren, who were the light of her life. They each had their role that none of the others could fill: Danny, the first, Amanda, the girl, and Ryan, the baby. She was so proud of all of them! She attended every christening, communion, confirmation, basketball, baseball, soccer, and volleyball game, swim meet, dance recital, orchestra concert, school play, award ceremony, birthday party and graduation. She could also be heard criticizing every “bad call” that all the referees and umpires made, and pointing out that her grandchild’s performance was better than everyone else’s. She thrived on competition! She was fortunate enough to see Danny marry Angela and Amanda marry Helena. She was thrilled to embrace two new granddaughters in her life. Last year, she added the final title to her resume, “Great-Grandma”, when Danny and Angela welcomed the precious Sienna. A ray of sunshine that made her so happy she couldn’t stop smiling when she was around her! Marilyn was all about family. In addition to her parents, sisters, children, grandchildren and great grandchild, she was deeply loved by her two nephews, Dave and Adam, their wives, Kristie and Joann, her six great nephews, Dylan, Domenic, Anthony, Adam, Brayden and Mason, and her one great niece, Julianna. Marilyn outlived almost all her friends. She was still close with her friend Maureen, who was her shopping buddy, and you could still find her and her dear friend Marlene at the Red Lobster or Dix Hills diner just two months ago. Marilyn loved driving! Which always made her sister Linda happy, because she hates driving. You would always find her listening to one of her many Alan Jackson or Kenny Rogers CDs. It was a sad day when Marilyn couldn’t drive anymore. She hated relying on anyone to take her where she had to or wanted to go. She started watching more TV. In her final years, you would find her watching QVC (which she could rattle off her credit number by heart), old westerns, game shows, Law and Order SVU and mostly the New York Yankees and Golf. She was a die-hard fan of A-Rod and Tiger Woods. Some may be surprised to know she also watched WWE Wrestling on Monday nights with her nephews! She loved giving her commentary and mocking the wrestlers. Recently, it was hard for her to get out a lot, but she still managed to go out to get her hair and nails done and to go to a family gathering and enjoy her favorite appetizers. Marilyn Price was one of a kind. A force of nature with a heart of gold who will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.
Marilyn was preceded in death her father Charles Indiere (1945), her mother Caroline Horner (1999), her sister Joan Indiere (2005), her beloved Frank DeRosa (1996).
She is survived by, her son and daughter-in-law Chuck and Linda Price, her daughter and son-in-law Cheri and John Baile, grandchildren, Danny and Angela Price, Amanda and Helena Roland-Price and Ryan Baile, Great- Granddaughter Sienna Price, sister, Linda Schwarz, nephews and nieces, Dave and Kristie Schwarz and Adam and Joann Schwarz, Great Niece and Nephews, Dylan, Domenic, Anthony, Adam, Brayden Julianna and Mason Schwarz.
