Obituary of Jerome B. Wilson
Please share a memory of Jerome to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On December 20, 1931 Jerome B. Wilson was born to Leroy Wilson and Edna Jefferies in Baltimore, MD. As a young boy he adored his grandparents, learning a love of hard work alongside his grandfather and a lifelong love of sweets from his grandmother.
At the age of 19 he enlisted in the Air Force where he discovered a love of travel while serving as a Military Policeman all over the world. He was decorated with both Good Conduct and National Defense Service medals for his service. His favorite stories to tell were of his trips to Africa, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Jerome was also very proud of his athletic accomplishments, and if you sat still long enough he was going to tell you that he started as a wide receiver and defensive end for the All-Air Force Football Team. Of course he had the pictures and articles to prove it!
After leaving the military he found himself in Brooklyn, NY with family and soon thereafter working at both Kings Park Psychiatric Facility and the V.A. Medical Center in Northport, NY. While working at the VA one day his “Lady” caught his eye. He offered her some golf lessons and their life was in full swing from then on. The vows Jerome and Mary took on June 15, 1966 resulted in a home that nurtured four children, Leon, Carolyn, Jay and Iola; four grandchildren Staci, Wade, Jerome(Chelesa) and Erica and one great grandchild, Chaden.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, wisdom, gentle nature and the way he always had time for those in need. He and his beautiful smile will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
