Obituary of Emory Butts

Please share a memory of Emory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Emory Butts, a pillar of his community and an individual of exemplary character, passed away recently, leaving behind a life rich in relationships and meaningful experiences. Born on March 7, 1938, in Tifton, Georgia, he was the son of the late Flossie Henry and Robert Butts.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pearlie Mae Butts, whose companionship enriched his life and fortified his commitment to family and community.

Emory shared his life and wisdom with his four children: Gwendolyn, Yvonne, Emory Jr., and Rashida. Further enriching his life were his grandchildren—Lameisha, Imani, and Noah—as well as a great-granddaughter, Jayla. His bond with them was not merely that of a grandfather but also as a mentor and a friend.

An ardent lover of the outdoors, Emory was an active member and board member of the Long Island Bassmasters Fishing Club. His passion for fishing was more than a hobby; it was a facet of his identity that brought him peace and camaraderie.

In his professional life, Emory served as the Student Body Chairman within the Harbor Fields School District for over 20 years. In this role, he was more than an administrator; he was a mentor and guiding figure for countless students. His influence reached beyond policies and procedures, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those he encountered.

As a tribute to a life so well-lived, the following quote captures the essence of Emory Butts and the enduring legacy he leaves behind: "Daddy your eyes are closed, now rest... it's our turn to carry the torch."

Emory leaves behind a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. His absence will be deeply felt, but his impact will endure.
