My initial memory of Robert Ruege ( just Ruege to me) was on one of his first visits to Texas. It was at that point I realized how awesome and unique he was. On that first meeting Ruege banned me from the entire tri state area of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey under no circumstances was I to ever cross the state lines of those 3 states and enter into New York /long Island he made himself the judge and jury and I would be guilty of trespassing and breaking his golden rule. From that initial interaction we became friends . On his next trip were had a golf outing planned, he took a break from playing cards that night and he went outside, I followed to see him going through the golf bag of one of our other friends, and he was hitting golf balls into the lake we preceded to hit every ball he had into the lake and said nothing to the friend, his golf bag was about 10 pounds lighter, by time we were done there were no golf balls left . Next morning Ruege got the friends golf bag and carried it to the clubhouse, and stopped in the pro shop bought him 3 dozen brand new Titleist golf balls, knowing that there was not a single new ball in that bag to begin with let alone Titlists balls That was just the type of guy Ruege was . Funny, Yet thoughtful to make sure he did the right thing.. The other thing that if you knew Ruege was his Texas Tie affiliation and love for the Texas longhorn football team. And their football caps.. Those two items were synonymous when it came to Ruege’s clothing attire . He never showed up, or went anywhere without a longhorn cap or shirt . His Love of Texas Football team was almost at strong as his love for his daughters and granddaughter.. the Texas /OU football game will continue I promise and Ruege will always have a front row seat watching the game from above.. He will absolutely be missed but never forgotten. See you my friend, Ruege Love you Brother!

I met Ruege some 25 years ago and we became instant friends. He always took me under his wing whether on my visits to New York, our golf trips, or his visits to Texas. He was always very supportive, no matter what the situation, and always stayed in touch. My wife Jen and I are truly going to miss our friend as he always made her feel special. Thank you Ruege for some fantastic memories that will never be forgotten.

Thank you Bob for teaching Tom a new trade. He loved doing the wood floors and found it very rewarding, He left a small token with you the last piece of wood from the last job he did for you. He not only lost a good man. He is so torn apart because he lost so much, he still laughs at all the good.times you had together. RIP Bob you still forever be in Toms heart, he was your last man standing. He was true to the end,

I did not know Ruege that well but from what I saw I liked. He was a social guy and fun to be around. He openly talked about his illness and refused to let it dictate his path. I will miss him and his upbeat personality. Rest in peace Bob BUT always have fun!

Ruege was a fantastic person and friend. Myself and all the people in Texas who loved it when Ruege would visit only knew him as Ruege, not sure we knew his first name, but it did not matter, we knew he was coming to visit and it was always a great time. I will miss him everyday and when I get sad, I will stop and think about all the great times we had playing golf, cards, or just sitting and telling stories. Ruege would call me all the time, just to make sure I was doing OK, he was a true friend. I loved to talk to Ruege about his family, he loved all of you so much and he was so proud of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so thankful to have had him in my life for over the last 25 years.

Rest in peace Bobby Ruege. Bobby was a great friend and a pleasure to be around. He c0uild always brighten things up on a cloudy day. Great memories running drill team with HMFD. Bowling with the fire department and stopping after for a few cold ones. I will always remember going to SUNY Farmingdale on Saturdays and playing tackle football on frozen ground with no padding. We certainly made unforgettable memories and had a great friendship. Even though we lost touch over the years I often thought about you and what you were up to. Until we rekindle our friendship. Condolences to your family

It is true that on a clear day, you can see forever - well almost. Often in our own lives, we get lost in the woods, sometimes counting needles on pine trees. We fail to look up to see the light on the horizon.
Bob was one of those people who got you to look up, and see the wonderful things and people around you. He made me, and many people around him, laugh and enjoy each other's company. I will miss him, his wonderful presence, and his positive outlook on life...and I am only consoled knowing that some day we will meet again in the company (I hope) of angels.
May Bob rest in peace. Condolences and prayers of comfort to his family. We know he will be gazing down on us all.

Bob was a great friend even though we did not see each other much in later years. He brought a smile to everyone's face, especially to those who attended Holy Family with. I looked forward to seeing him whenever we had reunions or get togethers.
He now sits with a glorious group of people from the class of 1974, and will be deeply missed. See you at the big reunion !
Love you my friend

Ruege..I’ve called him by his last name since we first met in Myrtle Beach over 25 years ago. Since then we became the best of friends even though he lived in New York and I lived in Texas. Since then he has become an honorary Texan and a staunch Texas Longhorn fan. I miss him so much already and can’t imagine that will change for as long as I live.
