Oh Brett . I will miss your funny antics at Parrot Head events. You always brought, not only a smile, but a belly laugh to the world. We’ll miss you. 3M

I was one of the people who interviewed Brett before he joined Stony Brook. I recall putting his resume in the reject pile because we had so many (300+) and my boss fished it back out noting he was the only applicant that had experience with a particular tool we used.
During the interview he was the only applicant to answer all my questions correctly. When he left, I turned to my boss and said, "Can we keep him?"
Little did I know we were hiring the cousin of the god of mischief. He made work a blast... literally, he blew up my trash can one day. I am going to miss the cubicle to cubicle nerf dart wars and BBQs on campus we had while hiding from the fire marshal all the while him wearing the loudest Hawaiian shirts.
Not to, also, forget his penchant for reconfiguring people's desks... photo evidence included.
Rest in peace my friend, you left us far to early. Don't be getting yourself up to too much trouble upstairs.

Brett
Brett, your mischievous smile stays in our minds
as we think of these last days...
Your sense of humor, even in difficult situations
surfaces in thoughts about you!
You were faithful to your mom and dad...
Pitching in daily as needed...a real steady ender, always ready
to meet whatever was needed each day...
You planned, shopped and became chef of the year
for the George and Helen household...
You prepared nutritious meals to keep the family going...
and time spent there was appreciated
and your dad was blessed to have you every day.
What a great relationship you two share....
A gift surely for both of you...You may be on another shore...
but that bond remains...
You are treasured by your nephews...
Duct taping them to a pole after they were found playing on the roof!
Greeting kids with..have you got a job yet? Are you married yet?
Jumping right in to mess up their world...
with laughter and fun and pure joy!
Today we celebrate your life...
Your closeness to your daughter Zoe, your pride at her accomplishments,
and your continuing love and care for her....
Your celebrations with friends and family...
Your hospitality when you celebrated your parents anniversary
with fine cuisine on a boat ride...
Cheryl speaks of the pesky little brother
who grew up to be a helpful protector...
caring for her through Covid
when it struck her during her visit!
Surely we will miss that curved smile and pleasant banter,
the Facebook pictures and sayings
that brought smiles to all of us...
Be at peace Brett, enjoy the beaches of heaven
waiting for you to explore
Know that you will be missed every day...more than you know.
May our Heavenly Father reward your kindness,
your generosity, and your faithful caring
with blessings and love
a hundred times over as He promised.

I have known Brett for many years and through him his parents, George and Helen. Brett was good man. That may sound simple but the sentiment it holds is deep and profound. He was a good man.

my deepest heartfelt condolences on your loss.
Brett was the cool laid back uncle to us who worked in IT at southampton and a guy who you could tell anything to. He was such a great boss that when i moved to the main campus and found out he had a position in hsc, i did not hesitate to apply where i enjoyed working with him for two more years. i even tried to recuit other southamptoners who moved to the main campus to come work for him in HSC. Whenever i walked into his office we'd talk about all sorts of things: life, his love of guiness, the big Lebowski (which he had on vhs and in the tv that was in his office), the ongoings of the day, his plans to retire early and enjoy the beach, i even remember the time he showed me this rainfall showerhead he wanted to install in his bathroom...kind of funny 10+ years i haven't seen him in person and i still remember that showerhead he wanted to install...He always made time to talk to anyone who wanted to be heard, was generous by always looking out for the people close to him and offered some of the best life advice that i use today, " to always take life easy". He was an amazing mentor and friend that will be missed by anyone who knew him.
To his daughter, Zoey, i never got to meet you but Brett never once missed an opportunity to praise you and you meant the world to him. i always recall he kept your photo close by his computer in his office as a way to motivate him to deal with the craziness that was working at Stony Brook.
i hope wherever he is now, he has that beautiful beach he wanted to retire on, some jimmy buffet is playing and bottomless drinks.

This world has lost some of its light. Brett Auletta has passed away. I met Brett when we were both working for Stony Brook Southhampton, it was a great “little” campus that was more of a community than a school. Brett and I stayed friends through the years, and I can’t name a more selfless person. He always had a quick witty reply, always ready to give you a hand. If he found something obscure that he thought you would like, he’d make sure to get it to you. Even in death Brett is still giving; he was an organ donor. My only hope is that whomever received his organs was worthy, and that some of Brett’s attributes will circulate through the recipient. A truer friend, I will not find. I’ll see you on the other side Brett, we’ll have some bbq!
