There are only a few times in one’s life when you know someone who is special beyond words. Janet is one of those souls. She was so much tougher than she looked, smarter than she let on, funnier than most people, and kinder than so many others. Her smile was a thing of beauty, and you could not resist smiling right along with her. I don’t know who will drive past my house, and make fun of my lawn now. I will forever miss Jan Jan, a 3-2-4 of the finest order. My condolences to her family and loved ones, there are no words to ease your pain. I believe though, that she will watch over all of her loved ones providing guidance, love, and support.
She has, and always will, hold a loving place in the hearts of so many, including my own. Be at peace Jan Jan. Doreen Thompson

Janet was my best & longest friend. We met in high school over 50 years ago.
Her kindness, generosity, intelligence, positivity and sense of humor were amazing.
We had so much fun. Way back then, there were many trips to Robert Moses Beach, crazy but fun bad ‘Good Buddies’ volleyball team and Colony Softball Team, and so much more.
Janet, knowing I would be working in Vermont and alone for Christmas 1978, gave me a little two-foot artificial Christmas tree. It was quite the comfort.
More recently, we took walks around the neighborhood, discussing personal things and current events.
Her unique, measured perspective was always appreciated.
Rest well Jan Pal. You will be remembered as a most beautiful person, inside and out.
Thank you for your friendship. I love you.

Sometimes the simplest gestures leave such lasting impressions. Many years ago Janet visited me in the hospital after giving birth to my daughter and brought me a beautiful pink rose in a lovely little bud vase. At that time I had only know Janet through the friendship of our husbands. I was so very touched by her kindness and the fact that she took the time to congratulate me having hardly known me for long. I have never forgotten that moment. I still have that bud vase and it reminds me not only of Janet but of her heartfelt kindness. Kindness that I try and spread each day thanks to one small gesture so many years ago.
Surely an angel while here on earth. Fly home sweet girl. Fly home.

A mother is the most valued being on earth. Janet was everyone’s mother at work. I will miss you with all my heart.

Janet and I met at work in April, 1976. She asked me to come to a pool party in Huntington. I only was going to go for a few hours since I really didn’t know anyone. I only had sunglasses with me since I figured I would be home before dark. Well, I had such a good time and Janet took me to this bar called Colony. I drove the whole way there in sunglasses. I couldn’t barely see the road. I remember Janet laughing the entire way. What I didn’t know was that that was the beginning of a 48 year friendship. We hung out all the time and always went to Colony before we did anything else! I hardly even drank there and Janet always had Diet Coke. We played softball (I was terrible!), and were on an adult volleyball team called The Good Buddies. We were both single and had so many memories together. We always had our “Chelsea Mornings” to laugh about! Only a few people will know what that even means!
We were there for each other’s weddings and birth of our children. Janet was the first person I called when my mom passed away and was always there for me after my husband died. Of course, our lives were busy so we didn’t see each other more than 3 or 4 times a year. But, no matter how long it had been, when we got together, it was as if time stood still. The close friendship never faded.
My world will never be the same without that smiling face, always pleasant, always taking care of people. I love you Jan Jan and will miss you terribly.
