Obituary of Daniel Treacy

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness the Treacy family announces Daniel Patrick Treacy (Danny) suddenly passed away on Tuesday March 14, 2023. Danny was the beloved husband of MaryJane for nearly 38 years, the most incredible father to Matt (Megan), Daniel (Mia), and Steven (Bridget), and greatest Irish pop-pop to Cora & Elle. Danny was a loving son to the late Marcella & Daniel Treacy, big brother to Michelle (Paul) Loney & Denise (Gerard) Collins, and son-in-law to the late Salvatore Tutone. He was a loyal and caring brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, & friend to many.

Danny was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY where he attended St. Vincent’s Ferrer elementary school and went on to graduate from Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge. During his early years, Danny enjoyed traveling back to Ireland with his parents and sisters to meet his cousins across the pond developing friendships with them which would last a lifetime. Danny was an exceptional athlete playing all sports from basketball, football, & hockey to the Brooklyn staples, stickball and skully. Though street hockey was his favorite to play, basketball is where he excelled, playing four years at Xaverian culminating in a State Championship title his senior year. Whether he knew it or not at the time, the relationships fostered during his adolescence and at Xaverian would be some of the most important of his life. None more important than his Confirmation partner and love of his life, MaryJane.

Danny and Maryjane dated for years and were married on June 22nd 1985. Together they enjoyed night time trips to the beach, card games, and lunch trips to see their sons. Danny & MaryJane raised their three boys in Levittown, Woodbury, & Huntington. Danny made countless memories with them on family vacations, trips to the park for 2-on-2 basketball games followed by a stop at Potters Pub for lunch, all day cooking feasts, backyard poolparties, coaching ball games, and instilling the values he felt were most important to turn his boys into men.

Danny began his career working at Merrill Lynch in foreign trading, through his perseverance & hard work went on to run international trading desks at several financial service firms. The relationships with people on his US team and clients around the world were some of his most cherished. These professional relationshipsturned into personal ones and thus he began hosting his annual cross-border golf trip with his US and international counterparts making memories which will stay with all who participated for years to come.

Danny held many titles throughout his life: son, brother, husband, father, uncle, Head of Trading, CEO; but one of his favorites was Pop-Pop. His time with his Little Princess and Elle Bell brought a tenderness out of him and he relished every second with them. He loved playing with the girls in his pool, watching movies with them, and most of all, going on walks to Stan’s for an Old Fashioned donut followed by a trip to the park.

After his family and friends Danny’s other love was the New York Football Giants. One of his favorite things to do was to have his family and friends over his house, enjoy a couple of cold ones, cook a big meal, and watch the Giants.

Danny’s quick wit, endless support, and unbridled positivity (especially when it came to the Giants) will be missed by us all.
