James Funk

08.11.58 - 12.09.22

The Funk Family is saddened to announce the passing of James (Jim) Funk. Jim was a beloved father, brother, son, friend, and husband. Jim owned his own contracting company by day, Funks Home Improvements, and worked for the NYC Transit Authority by night. Everyone who met him was in awe of his dedication and hard work ethic, especially his two sons. Jim would constantly tell his sons to work “smart” not “hard”, a lesson that they have each taken to heart in their journeys through adulthood. They do not know if they will fully reach his goal of working smarter and not harder, but they are trying their damndest to get there. Jim was a lover of classic muscle cars, engines, and anything mechanical. Towards the last years of his life he became a family culinary icon, and self appointed lo mein specialist.  Jim always had the tenacity to solve any problem, big or small. Jim’s business card reads “We can fix anything but broken hearts”, but he was wrong. With Jim’s robust and sometimes questionable sense of humor, giving heart, and deep love, he has and continues to fix his sons’ hearts. Our father was, and continues to be our superhero.

His family asks that we all join together to celebrate Jim’s friendship, love, and even his bad jokes. Please join us at the following date and times to celebrate Jim and come together with all of the people he has touched through his journey through life.
