I have known Brian Touhey since early 1990. We belonged to a group up at Saint John's Church Cold Spring Harbor.
One thing which always stood out to me was the easy way he could tell a story or make a point. He knew how to cut to the core of the matter.
Brian was a paradox of humanity: the glib raconteur, charming lilting gift of gab Irishman, who also was one of the most giving and charitable men I knew. I personally saw him help the down and out and suffering souls he met, often on the streets of this Town. Even while so ill I'd call and ask Susan if I could come by and visit, he always said yes. He also knew he could say " thats enough if he grew tired, and I took no offense to leave. I'd just say thanks buddy see you again!
I will miss his friendship. He shared his wife' Susan's friendship with me and their amazing sons, Patrick and Daniel. The hours spent in their home was the journey of a life which inevitably bore witness up till the end of what Love will bear.
I saw Love, Courage, and Gentleness.
The day he left I surely knew the
' Angels and His God carried him home out of the suffering" and
I told Brian I believed that truly.
We shall meet again my friend.
