Obituary of Robert Templeton
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Stevens Templeton passed away in the bright sunlight outside
the home he loved on October 31, 2022 at the age of 91. He was a
Korean War veteran, avid golfer and caring friend to all. Robert was
born on July 28th, 1931 in Charlotte, NC to Sam and Cornelia
Templeton. He was industrious all his life, starting work at age 17 and
joining the U.S. Navy at age 19. He married his devoted wife Frances at
the age of 20 and then served his country as an aviation mechanic in a
drone unit. They raised two sons, Mark and Gary, and two daughters,
Dona and Lori. They had the distinct honor of celebrating their 70th
wedding anniversary last year at Huntington Country Club. Robert was
loved by all and brought an easy Southern charm to every room he
entered. He helped build the Throgs Neck Bridge as a lineman, strung
the first power lines across the Everglades and ran a successful military
defense business. He handcrafted cross necklaces from horseshoe
nails and gave away 2,800 of these to friends, family, and strangers. He
was known for his generosity, love of family and passion for golf. Bob
was predeceased by his sister Doris, his beloved grandson Pierce, and
his wife Frances–by only 85 days. He is survived by his brothers James
and Samuel and their families; his four children and their spouses
Yvonne, Joanna, Tim, and Joseph; 8 grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren,
and his rescue dog Blue.
Visitation will be Friday, November 11 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the M. A.
Connell Funeral Home in Huntington, NY. A celebration of his life will be
held on Saturday, November 12 at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church
of Sweet Hollow in Melville, NY. In lieu of flowers the family requests
that donations be made to Sierra Delta Inc., an organization which pairs
veterans with companion dogs.
