Robert – Rob to those who met him at CUNY School of Law – was a brilliant lawyer, committed law teacher and a loyal friend. Despite all his success using his legal training to improve the lives of persons with disabilities, he was modest about his work. “I’m just the guy with the lunch pail, I go to work every day and try and do my best and then I go home.” And that’s the way he saw himself – supremely confident in his skills and proud, but not boasting of his accomplishments, a lawyer with a blue collar.
A scholarship in his memory has been established at CUNY School of Law to help students interested in following Rob’s path by working for disability rights. Please consider supporting this effort in Rob’s honor: https://www.law.cuny.edu/newsroom_post/disability-rights-advocate-robert-briglio-remembered/
Rob didn’t waste time or putter around – he was usually purposefully engaged and totally focused on what he was doing, whether it was work, reading the paper, watching a movie, running, having a conversation or watching sports. It was a privilege to be his friend. My best to his cherished daughter Samantha, beloved fiancé and partner Eleni, and big brother Richard. My heart goes out to you all.

Robert Briglio was my son's hearing officer about 20 years ago. It was an extremely complicated case which we lost. After the hearing, I started attending CPSE and CSE meetings helping families on Long Island. I'm sure Mr. Briglio is proud of me assisting parents at CPSE and CSE meetings including hearings. Mr. Briglio was appointed to many hearings when I represented families and watched me mature as a special education advocate. Thank you, Mr. Briglio, because of all I learned from you, I've helped thousands of children throughout the years.

I was an Impartial Hearing Representative for a busy district. I frequently came before Robert Briglio as the Impartial Hearing Officer. While he rarely found in my favor ; ) I always found him to be fair and supportive of the people who came before him. Outside of the hearings, I enjoyed talking with him about running. He was a disciplined long distance runner while I was a plodder. He was supportive and always tried to encourage me. Robert was very parent/child oriented and always demonstrated that at every hearing. He will be missed by all who knew him.

My name is David Mark, since 2004 I work for the DOE and represented the district at impartial hearing where Mr Briglio was the judge. Whenever I saw himI would refer to him as Mr B. it made him smile every time. Mr B was a man of integrity, he was there to hear the facts and render a decision that was his job and that is exactly what he did, and he did it well.
He was a no nonsense lets get the job done kind of guy. The world needs more people like Mr B. I will miss him.
May he Rest In Peace.
With Love and gratitude
David Mark
