Bishop Porter came to the spiritual South to tell my mother and some of her acquaintances that it was time to leave the plantation of religion. He made GOD real to us country bumpkins. Between the time I first met Evangelist Porter and the time I knelt at the foot of the cross asking JESUS for forgiveness of sin (Romans 10:9-10) and asking HIM to wash away my sin nature (Romans 6) and replace it with HIS divine nature (2 Peter 1:4); my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Preacher Porter’s teaching and preaching was the catalyst to my Mother being healed of cancer and avoiding cobalt treatment. The cancer completely disappeared! That was somewhere around 1976 when the hospital priest came in to administer last rights to my Mary Ann Elizabeth McCray, but she ended up preaching GOD’s amazing grace to the priest. Maybe he got saved after that. Bishop Porter changed the course of my family’s life. He changed the course of my children’s lives and the lives of my siblings’ children. The first generation of strong and unashamed Christians, Sunday School teachers, evangelists, church elders, pastors, and Christian authors in my family and blood line was born when Evangelist Norris Porter made GOD real and, in essence, shared Heaven’s Emancipation Proclamation that… It’s time to leave the sin plantation!
