Obituary of Andrew S. Hinkson
Please share a memory of Andrew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Andrew Stephen Hinkson was born on September 10, 1987 to Sharon Munroe-Hinkson and Allen Hinkson in Englewood, NJ.
Andrew was eight pounds, eight ounces at birth and within 10 months was walking, followed quickly by running. We did not know that this would be a foundational element of his entire life.
The Hinkson family moved from Morristown, NJ to Huntington, NY in 1991 and Andrew began kindergarten at TJ Lahey Elementary School. His classmates became his lifelong friends as he completed Oldfield Middle School and Harborfields High School.
Andrew’s love of sports and competition grew during his high school years. In High School he played on the varsity Soccer team as well as the varsity basketball team. He played on various travel soccer teams and spent summers playing on LI Select Soccer teams as well.
Andrew played soccer briefly for Hofstra University and received his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Old Westbury in Communications.
Through sports, Andrew developed a strong sense of camaraderie and loyalty. He was a true “team player” in sport and in life and easily made friends wherever he went! He was also a magnet to children who immediately were attracted to him and he stopped to pay attention to them as well. He leveraged his love of soccer and began to train and then coach a boy’s soccer team under the Susa organization, New Hyde Park - Sabercats.
Andrew attended Northport Baptist Church (ICC) from a young age with his parents and siblings. His character is built on the Christian principles internalized at a young age – “A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” [John 13:34].
Left to mourn his passing are his parents, Allen and Sharon, his siblings, Lauren and Nigel Hinkson, his Grandmother, Shirley Munroe, his Uncle, Maynard Munroe, and his Aunts, Norma Jones, Yvonne Hinkson, Avis Hinkson and Pat Simmons (Great Aunt), his cousins, Shereen Tariq and Naji Macklin and Imani Hinkson. Also mourning his passing are Vilma Seale (Godmother) Dom Caracciolo (best friend) and a host of extended family, friends and colleagues.
The family will miss Andrew – his smile, quick wit and laughter that would brighten and lift the spirit of any room. Today, we are comforted by the 33 years of wonderful memories that we hold so dearly.
Respectfully,
The Hinkson Family
