Obituary of Carolyn C. Buechler

Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carolyn Buechler was a devoted wife, caring mother and beloved grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world suddenly on July 14, 2021 at age 73. She will be forever loved and forever remembered. Carolyn was born on January 16, 1948 to Sylvia Marino and George Custis in Woodhaven, New York. After she graduated from Our Lady of Wisdom Academy in 1965, she pursued a degree in Arts and Sciences at Marymount Manhattan College. While studying there, in 1966 she met the love of her life, John, and the two were inseparable from that point on. They married in 1969, shortly after her graduation, and Carolyn went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Queens College in 1971. Carolyn and John enjoyed over 50 wonderful years of marriage and had two children, Janice and John. They resided in the family home that Carolyn and John designed and loving built together on Long Island, in Dix Hills, New York. Carolyn worked as a Speech Pathologist for over 50 years. She was highly skilled, passionate about her career, and positively impacted the lives of many children and adults as she helped them to overcome challenges relating to speech and language. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Carolyn. Among her favorites, she loved to travel, entertain friends and family, and spend time with her grandchildren. She loved to partake in a spirited debate, knit, craft and design, indulge in a good book, and take on a worthy opponent at the Scrabble board. She loved to bake and cook, take in an evening of theater, and of course, enjoy a good oaky, buttery Chardonnay. Carolyn was incredibly generous with her affection and friendship. She relished the opportunity to spoil the people she loved most and had an uncanny ability to always find the perfect gift. If you mentioned you liked or needed something in her presence, you were sure to have it as fast as Amazon could ship it. She was the one you wanted to be seated next to at a dinner party and was an inviting and engaging hostess who adored entertaining at the home she and John loved so much. Carolyn instantly made you feel like family. She nurtured and grew her own to include many friends and “fousins” along the way, all of whom she loved endlessly. Carolyn was predeceased by her father George and mother Sylvia. She is survived by her loving husband, John; her children, Janice and John and their spouses, Peter and Nancy; her five grandchildren, Ben, Caroline, Grace, Ruby Rose and Jax; her sisters Janice and Gloria, and their families. Services will be held as follows: Wake: Saturday, July 17th, 7pm – 9pm Sunday, July 18, 2pm – 4pm M.A. Connell Funeral Home Inc.
