Patricia Maria Regan Scharpf, 75, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021 at Huntington Hospital. Pat was born in Glen Cove to the late John and Sally Regan, the eldest of six children. She spent her childhood in Hicksville, attending St. Dominic’s Catholic High School. She then obtained her LPN from Misericordia School of Nursing, and worked as an emergency room nurse. She met the love of her life, Richard Scharpf, in the Hamptons and they married in 1970. While raising her family, she continued her studies, becoming an RN, graduating from Excelsior College with a bachelors degree, and then a masters degree in Nursing Education at Columbia University Teachers College. Pat excelled in her time at Huntington Hospital, becoming pivotal in staff development, leading and training incoming and staff nurses. She taught aspiring nurses at Adelphi University, Farmingdale State College, and New York University, and did legal nurse consulting. Despite this wealth of professional and academic accomplishments, her greatest achievement was her family. Pat is survived by her loving husband, Rich, of 50 years, her children, Susan (Jake) Freivald, Stephen (Christine) Scharpf, and Kevin (Jessica) Scharpf, and fifteen grandchildren (Liam, Garrett, Corinne, Richard, Alexander, Duncan, Shaelyn, Timothy, Kayleigh, Maeve, Dylan, Patricia, Lila, Emmett, Finn). She is predeceased by her daughter, Carol, who died in infancy. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Melville Outreach Program or The Alzheimer’s Association.
