James T Duffy Jr, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Huntington on April 28, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Joyce A Duffy (nee Grimes.) He was a loving father to Kelly (Christopher Kelly) Duffy and Erin (Joseph M Jr) Sclafani and adored grandfather of Bridget, Ryan, Patrick, Joseph, Kevin, Nicholas and Megan. He is also survived by three sisters Peggy Anne (Paul) Noble, Maureen (Charles) Maniccia, Colleen (Greg) Bortz and sister-in-law, Joanne Adamek, and brother-in-law, John Grimes, as well as twenty-two nieces and nephews.
Dr. Duffy was a Professor of English for over 35 years at the New York Institute of Technology where he impacted thousands of students during his tenure. He received his PhD from Penn State in 1979. His love of music from an early age led him to sing in the St Patrick of Huntington’s choir for over 30 years. He and his wife shared the love or travelling to many foreign countries during their life.
His family finds peace in knowing that Jim will be listening to 50’s and 60’s music, completing unlimited NYT crossword puzzles, cheering on Penn State football and his beloved hometown team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
To know him was to love him. He was a kind and generous man who was loved by all who met him. He will be dearly missed.
Friends will be received Sunday, May 2 from 4pm to 8pm at MA Connell Funeral Home in Huntington with a funeral mass on Wednesday, May 5 at 9:45am at St Patrick’s Church in Huntington with a Catholic burial directly following. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Trocaire House at St. Patrick’s.
