Obituary of James Byrne

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James P. Byrne passed away on Sunday 9/13/2020. He died at home with his wife of 65 years watching over him and his daughters lovingly caring for him at the moment he went home to God. He was 90 years old and his body was just giving out on him over the last year. He had a wonderful life. He loved and was loved by many and is survived by his loving wife, Eileen (nee Roach), his seven children: Edmond (Cathy) of Woodlawn in the Bronx; James of Cocoa Beach, FL; Dennis (Pan) of Chiang Mai, Thailand; Eileen DiPhillips (Paul) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Theresa Williamson (Robert) of Huntington, NY; Margaret Cosgrove (Christopher) of Oradell, NJ; Matthew (Patricia) of Queens Village, NY, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends a plenty. Originally from the Bronx (St. Augustine’s and later Sacred Heart Parish), he moved to Lake Lincolndale (a hamlet of Somers) in Westchester in 1966 where he raised his family and lived for over 50 years. He was proud to have served in the USMC (1946-1949), and later for 25 years in the NYPD (1955-1980). His passions in life were his family, golf, and A.A. (the organization he would constantly attribute with saving his life). He worked that program one day at a time, let the years take care of themselves, and, fortunately, there were a great many. As for golf, as fate would have it, he hit his first hole-in-one in his late 80’s followed closely by another. His guidance, wisdom and love will be missed. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary RC Church in Melville at 10:30 AM on Thursday, 9/17/20. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you put in a good word for Jim with your Higher Power and do a good deed for someone or your community.
