Obituary of Richard Francis Ambrosio
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rick Ambrosio passed away on September 11, 2020, surrounded by his beloved family after a brief battle with cancer. He was 65.
His life's greatest passions were his family, his firm, Ambrosio & Bellotti, and tennis.
He was born on August 18, 1955 to Joseph and Evelyn Ambrosio in Rockville Center, NY. He was raised in Freeport and Merrick NY, the second of four boys. He was brought up with a strong sense of family and had an idyllic childhood surrounded by his parents, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
At age 16, he met Nancy, the love of his life, at Mepham High School. They married in 1975 and later had three children, Kadi, Daniel and Eric whom they raised in Massapequa and Lloyd Harbor. It was a beautiful marriage that his children today revere as a model for their own.
He founded Ambrosio & Bellotti in 1983. Over the last 37 years it has grown into a 24-person firm and a respected institution within the community. Prior to founding Ambrosio and Bellotti, Rick spent 5 years at Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co. (KPMG today). He studied accounting at LIU-CW Post.
Anyone who knew Rick knew that he was all about tennis. He loved playing it, watching it, teaching it, the jargon, the gear, and the friends he made with it. He was thrilled to be able to attend three of the four grand slam events - the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon. To the disservice of the Australian economy, the Australian Open was in the works, but life had other plans.
He served on the Village of Lloyd Harbor Planning Board, was a committee chair and member of numerous charitable tennis outings on Long Island and was a member of the Lloyd Neck Bath Club and Huntington Country Club.
He will be remembered for his abundant love for his family, strong work ethic and kind, generous spirit. He leaves behind his wife Nancy, children Kadi, Dan and Eric, Children-in-law Mike, Trisha and Carmina, grandchildren Charlotte, Parker, Marco and Elena, and brothers Joey, Jimmy and Billy.
His wake will be held on Wednesday, September 16th from 4-8pm at M.A. Connell Funeral Home.
934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY 11746
In lieu of flowers, the Ambrosio family would appreciate donations to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory or Island Harvest in honor of Rick’s memory.
