Obituary of James William Higgins
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Saturday, July 25, 2020, James William Higgins, loving father to his three devoted daughters, passed away peacefully at his home in Selden, New York. “Jimmy,” born on January 21, 1942 in Camden, New Jersey, was 78 years young.
Jimmy lived life to the fullest and was truly one of a kind; charismatic with a heart of gold. He could light up any room with his infectious smile and laugh, and he was quick with a joke. Jimmy was an amazing listener and remembered everything. Above all, everyone would agree he was the absolute best hugger! Every morning, he started his day with a cup of coffee and a chocolate covered donut. After dinner, he enjoyed an espresso in a short, “hot” glass.
A butcher by trade, later in life he became a salesman for Cary Insulation in Bohemia, New York. Jimmy loved trips to Atlantic City, playing cards with his buddies, the NY Giants, and cooking. He carved a mean turkey and made an awesome lasagna. Of course, his greatest loves were his family. He saved literally every card, letter and drawing his grandchildren ever made for him.
Jimmy is survived by his three adoring daughters: Andrea Licenziato (Anthony), Barbara Jo Higgins Cali, and Jamie Burzo (Michael); his cherished grandchildren: Anthony (Jessica), Joseph, Josine, Brianna, Andrew, Alexie, Michael James and Ava Rose; his loving sister and brothers: Patricia Higgins Sherin, Dennis Raia (Cynthia), and Steven Raia (Debbie); and his beloved nieces and nephews: Heather, John, Christopher, Stephania, Jared, Gia, Laura and PJ. Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, Edith and Paul Raia and was loved by many aunts and uncles.
In celebration of his life, services will be held at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, New York on Wednesday, July 29 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 30 at the Church of St. Patrick, 400 Main Street, Huntington, New York.
