Please share a memory of Alexander to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alexander John DeDora, 92, of Huntington Station, died peacefully in his home on June 21, 2020. Alex was born on August 6, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Huntington Station. Son of the late Theodore and Lena Salmone DeDora, he was a U.S. Merchant Marine and World War II veteran. After the war, Alex followed in his mother’s footsteps and worked as a furrier before deciding to become a master carpenter. During his decades-long career, he helped craft some of Long Island’s most beautiful homes, including restorations at President Theodore Roosevelt’s Sagamore Hill. Alex will be remembered fondly by his family as “Pop,” the man with an easygoing nature who would always tell it to you straight. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking in his shop, tending to his garden, watching little league baseball and, as he grew older, relaxing in his recliner. In addition to his parents and two brothers, Phillip and Harry, Alex is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Stella Costa DeDora. Along with his sister Angela Sipala, he is survived by his children Lorraine DePalo (Ciro), Michael DeDora (Renee), and Jeanne Carofano (Gerard); grandchildren Thomas DePalo (Leia), Camille Richardelli (Rob), Anthony DePalo (Sharon), Alexander DePalo (Tara), Michael DeDora Jr. (Jean), Rachel DeDora (Tootsie), Jennifer Allstadt (Kevin), Maria Dieser (John), and Joseph Carofano (Jenna), as well as 18 great-grandchildren. Family and close friends celebrated Alex’s life with a private service at M.A. Connell Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Hugh’s Church, followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions can be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Association or American Cancer Society.
