Obituary of Joan Agnes O'Beirne
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan Agnes O’Beirne, (nee Cassidy) entered into eternal rest on April 21, 2020.
Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 27, 1932. She grew up in East Williston, NY. She developed a love of the ocean from early summers spent at Patchogue Shores, NY. Joan met her sweetheart, James, at a community pool and they were married in 1953 at St. Aidan’s Church. They were married for 59 years. Joan was a lifelong resident of Huntington, NY, only moving to Oyster Bay Manor Assisted Living in 2016.
She was very active as a church member, always having a strong faith. She worshipped at St. Hugh of Lincoln, St. Patricks’ Holy Name of Jesus, and later St. Dominic’s all located on Long Island.
She began her career in New York City working for Levitt and Sons. She was a homemaker for her children’s early years and then worked many years as a legal secretary for Ralph Gentile Esq., and the firm of Goodwin, Shultz & Goodwin in Huntington Village.
She was always excited to attend her children and grandchildren's sports, music and dance recitals, school plays, took many trips to NYC, swimming in the backyard pool, ocean beach days and annual trips to visit family & friends in Florida. Large Sunday meals were a ritual, birthdays meant chiffon cake with lemon frosting piled sky high and her meatballs, endless cookies and cakes, were famous on Tippin Drive.
Joan is predeceased by her husband James, brothers, Walter, Jr., Richard and her sister, Catherine. Joan leaves behind her loving children, James Jr., Joanne, Jeffry (wife Donna), Joseph (wife Karyn), and her cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Garrett, Monica, Paul and Joshua. All remember her for the loving, caring, unflappable person she was.
There will be a celebration of life sometime in the future when we are all safe again. We are comforted knowing she is in God’s hands now.
