Obituary of Patricia H. Courtemanche
HUNTINGTON – Patricia Hosey Courtemanche, 77, passed away at home on Sunday, October 27, 2019.
Patricia was born March 14, 1942 in Harrisburg, PA, daughter of John D. Hosey and Eleanor Bonniwell Hosey. Along with her twin Cathy and four younger sisters, she grew up in Ridgewood, NJ and Park Ridge, IL, graduating from Mundelein College in Chicago with a BA in History. She taught elementary school in Texas and Florida, and later earned an MA in Education from Long Island University/C.W. Post College.
In 1967, she met Regis Armand Courtemanche at a family christening and they got engaged on their first proper date. They were married in Bala Cynwyd, PA, on December 23, 1967, and were inseparable until he passed away in 2004.
Patricia is survived by her seven children—Eleanor (Ted Underwood) of Champaign, IL; Catherine Van Arnam (Jan) of Austin, TX; Sophie Webb (Harvey) of Melbourne, Australia; Jeanne Williams (Mike) of Westford, MA; Margaret Otto (Andy) of Clinton, NY; Regis Milne (Mary) Courtemanche of Huntington Station, NY; David (Libby) Courtemanche of Huntington, NY; and her 14 grandchildren Anya and Erik Van Arnam; Oscar and Conrad Webb; Sasha and Natalie Williams; Nicholas, Nathan, and Noelle Otto; Hudson and Jack Courtemanche; and Christopher, Bradley, and Cassandra Courtemanche. She is also survived by her five sisters Cathy MacDougall of Byron Center, MI, Maureen (Dave) Overstreet of Richmond, VA, Claire Allen of Springfield, IL, Trudy (Paul) Brennan of Marietta, GA, and Jeanne Hosey (Tony Travis) of Grand Rapids, MI.
Patricia had a unique gift for loving children and listening to them, building a closely-knit family that was bonded together by play and compassion. She was optimistic and full of joy in everyday life. A model of patience and humorous intelligence, she never once judged any of her children harshly. She will be terribly missed.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at M. A. Connell Funeral Home, Huntington. The funeral will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Centerport at 11:45 am on Nov. 2.
