We offer our heartfelt condolences and are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Mrs. Szaluta. Our children and all the students at HAFTR High School greatly benefitted from her kindness, professionalism and guidance. HAFTR was truly blessed to have had Mrs. Szaluta in our school community for the past decade.

Susie was a bright light in our family. In high school and for some years thereafter, her special friendship with our brother John impacted all of us. Whenever she came to our home, her sparkling eyes and infectious smile (sometimes devious :-) lit up the room. Susie was smart, funny, beautiful, kind and uniquely special. The ultimate "big sister" :-) for the younger Spafford crew. She was a joyful presence in the life's of everyone who knew her and truly made this world a much better place.
With much love,
Jamie for the Spafford Family

We are devastated by Susan's sudden passing. Susan and Karen met in graduate school (we were the oldest in the class) for school counseling in 2002 and became good friends instantly. We then worked together at HAFTR HS from 2008-2016. Susan was a treasured friend and beloved colleague. She made us laugh with her wonderful sense of humor, and she was patient, kind, creative, organized, compassionate, and a wonderful hostess. Students really connected with her. When we moved to NJ, Karen really missed seeing Susan on a daily basis, but we kept up with calls, texting, and a What's App group. We were in the middle of making plans to see each other after school finished. It is a devastating loss for everyone, and we extend our sincere condolences to Jack, his daughter, and Susan's family. She will be missed and we will think about her often.

My wife Geri and I are shocked and devastated to learn of the death of Susan, who we knew to be a bright and caring person and a most devoted wife to her husband Jacques. I have fond memories of her laughing with Geri whenever we were together.

I'm absolutely devastated at the news of Susie's passing. We'd only just recently reconnected and that had brought much happiness to me. We became dear friends from the moment she arrived at Cold Spring Harbor High School and I felt like a member of her family by the time we graduated. Susie's always been a friend in my heart and she will always hold a special place there.

As a former student blessed with the guidance of Mrs. Szaluta I am profoundly heartbroken at this news. Her eagerness to assist me with absolutely anything and everything, despite me being a difficult child to deal with, made a deep and lasting impact on my development. For this I will forever be indebted. May you find peace resting in God’s loving light. Thank you Mrs. Szaluta
