Fred was a huge part of my life growing up. As a dear friend of my father Sgt Willoughby W Walsh, Fred was hugely instrumentental in seeing the Nassau Country Mounted Unit come to be led by my dad the first commanding officer. Fred taught me as a young rider out in Sands Point and helped me get into the showing world taking me to the Hamptons and more. I was blessed to be able to ride his horses and share his love of horses. He taught me respect of these beautiful animals and was always including me in any new training And I have fond memories of tagging along with my dad and Fred. Bomb proofing at Sands Point was one of my favorite memories of Fred and my dad. He was like my dad truly a "gentleman" he will always be a part of my heart! He shared in my showing career was an influence in my training career..Fred shared special days in my family...my graduating from college, my wedding and the birth of my children. He even got to see my daughter compete. Any one who knew Fred knew the kindness he had and how much he loved our parks and preserves our horses and was truly a good person
I know my dad respected Fred so much and enjoyed their long friendship. Fred will be missed but certainly touched so many lives two and four footed!

Fred was a wonderful horseman and the personification of a true gentleman. His ability to take common horses and make them into incredible jumpers is a lost art today. I remember working a horse show back in the early 80’s at CW Post. Fred had just won the Gran Prix with his little guy against Vinny Sava’s big bad warmblood. In his always understated way, he comes up to me and says, “I guess we had a pretty good day”. That was Fred. Rest In Peace, my friend...

My college days, I sometimes shared shipping expenses on this horse, Flying Turk, to shows with a friend of Freddy's.

So many memories of Freddy. As a kid watched him showing his jumpers & later in college sometimes shared horse show shipping expenses with one of his friends. We all enjoyed horse show parties. When I was about 14, was watching an adult jumper class @ the top-notch North Shore Horse Show, Old Field. Freddy was competing, suddenly forgot last fence & slowed to a walk. I pointed & called, "that one!" Freddy looked at me, called, "that one???" I called, "yes!" He jumped it & finished course. Gallop on, Freddy!
