It seems like only yesterday I was driving to meet my fathers' very best army buddy and his family in a camper at Salem State College. Charlie was a little lost and coming to "camp" in our driveway. It was love at first sight for me. Charlie was warm and loving and this was matched by Judy. The "boys" were adorable and warm, and one of them ditched the camper and snuck into my room. I instantly knew why my father loved Charlie so much. It meant so much that Charlie traveled sometimes alone and sometimes with Judy to the special events/milestones in our family's life.
Judy and the rest of the clan, I am so sorry for your loss. He was one of a kind and will be missed. I am also sorry for the suffering that he and subsequently all of you went through.
May his memory be a blessing to you always.
With Love-
Margie

As soon as I saw that name, Charles Menacho, it hit me instantly I knew this man! He was my very very patient Driver's Education teacher in Wantagh High School the summer of 1965. HE taught me how to drive along with the others in the car. I'll never forget how patient and kind he was that summer, and yes I passed on the first try thanks to him! Condolences to his family at this time of sorrow.

I am deeply saddened to learn that Mr.Menacho, my high school teacher has died. He was an extraordinary teacher. I graduated from Wantagh High School in 1963 and not a year has gone by since, that he does not enter into my thoughts. In our current events class the first thing he did was have us subscribe to the New York Times. He taught us how to read a newspaper. He taught us how to discern what was important in the news from the inane. He taught us to be not only good citizens but engaged citizens. He taught us how to think critically and to research. He was one of the best teachers I ever had and that includes my college professors.
I am saddened he had Parkinson's. A very awful debilitating disease. May he Rest In Peace and his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. Jean Withers, Class of 1963.

From Connie: Charlie proved to be an excellent administrator in the Hauppauge schools. He had compassion for both staff and students and always sought to improve the educational program. I found him to be a close friend, one that was loyal and caring. I could always count on him when things got difficult, to help solve any problems confronting the operation of the school district. He had a unique sense of humor that everyone enjoyed. It was a pleasure to be around him. I will certainly miss him and never forget his kindness and care to everyone he came across.
From Marion: I knew Charlie and Judy, I had the privilege to have known this delightful couple through going on educational conferences with them. Besides having gone to my elementary school, PS 39, he was special to me because he made me laugh. I know how highly my husband thought of him and then I met him and understood why! Picture Charlie and Judy and us at Kennedy airport waiting for our trip to California to begin. Charlie began one of his funny monologs on "stuff" dwelling on the luggage we all had. We boarded the plane and when we landed we went to the baggage area and lo and behold, Charlie and Judy's luggage was lost. Other people might be in despair at this point but not those two and not Charlie. Just another occasion for Charlie to make more funny comments. My only regret is that since our retirement we have not spent as much time in their company as we should have. Any amount of Mia Culpas will not cut it. I can see you now Charlie giving God and his saints and angels a good laugh. I share in your laughter in the midst of my tears.
