Obituary of Garret L. Lambert "Gary"
Please share a memory of Garret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lambert, Garret “Gary”, 54, of New York, NY, on January 7, 2017. Beloved son of Robert & Cynthia. Loving brother of Hillary (Carl) Cunneff, Robert, Jr. (Jean) and Peter (Travis). Cherished uncle of Victor, Shannon, Nathan and Hunter. Gary was a remarkable man. He was at his core a teacher. He taught in both private and public elementary schools in Manhattan for 15 years. He also had a fulfilling arts career that spanned film, theatre, and television. Gary was a proud member of the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. He worked for the NYC Fringe festival for 14 years, most recently as the Fringe CENTRAL director. He was a fierce political activist and dedicated volunteer for Big Brothers New York, Broadway Cares, and teaching ESL. He loved New York City, and there he did not just survive, he thrived. His remarkable strength and perseverance awed everyone who came in contact with him. And throughout his litany of health challenges, he never lost himself. Not ever. Not even on his last day. Donations may be sent to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Visitation Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Funeral Mass Wednesday 9:30 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Melville. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
