Obituary of Gertrude Helen Dougherty

Gertrude “Trudy” Helen Dougherty, 75, of Boynton Beach, FL., formerly of Huntington, NY. After a brave five-year battle against MDS, Trudy, surrounded by her loving family peacefully passed away on October 1, 2016. Trudy was the beloved mother of four children - Kelly (Alex) Kupisz, Dennis, Maureen (Al) Salese, and John (Diane). She was the cherished grandmother of Brittany, Alyssa, Kristina, Alex, Brendan, Katie and Connor. Trudy was the adored sister of Carol (Al) Thompson, John Dougherty, Maureen (Don) Mayerhofer and Marie (Joe) Infranca. Loving Aunt to the Thompson, Mayerhofer, and Infranca families. Valued friend to many especially Janice Becker & Joseph Coyle. Trudy was welcomed into heaven by Dennis and the rest of her family. Trudy’s love of teaching and special education was demonstrated by her many years working with children at St. Anthony’s Elementary School, New York Institute of Technology, and most recently, Forrest Hill Elementary School, Palm Beach County, FL. As a teacher with a strong love for children, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (wsw.stjude.org/give) in Trudy’s name would be greatly appreciated. Visitation on Tuesday, October 4th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, October 5th @ 10:45am at St. Patrick’s Church, Huntington. Interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
