Obituary of Jane Sutton

Sutton, Jane (Moon), 68, of Melville, on July 1, 2016. Born in Huntington, to Samuel and Rose (Orella) Moon, devoted and loving wife of Steve Sutton, most loving mother to Janine (Christopher) Golub and Jimmy (Jaime) Sutton. Beloved daughter-in-law to Ruth Sutton. A loving sister to Sam “Beany” (Laurie) Moon & Bernice (Joseph) Albergo and beloved aunt to 7 nieces and nephews & 3 great nieces and nephews. Jane attended Walt Whitman High School, graduated from SUNY Albany with a Math major, and Computer Science minor. Jane began her career in Information Technology at the Long Island Lighting Company, and was one of the first women in their I.T. department. She met Steve there, and they married in 1980. She later stayed home to raise her children, guiding, nurturing, and taking leadership roles in the PTA and other school functions. Never one to sit back, she led an effort with other parents in her school district, to go to Albany to effect changes in the high school Math curriculum. She was very proud of that, but she was most proud of her children. Always there for them and her family, she was the corner stone of both her immediate family and extended family. She and Steve were their children’s most avid fans at all their sporting events, travelling to their games no matter how far. As her children grew older, she reentered the workforce. Again, she surprised folks, when at 61 she received her Master’s Degree, while working for Locust Valley Schools as a Technology Specialist. When most people at this time in their lives are starting to settle down, she continued to forge ahead and continued to be at the forefront of activity. Most important to her were her husband, children, family and friends. They are the true testimony of her abundance of love, her commitment to others, and her tireless spirit. Visitation Sunday & Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Funeral Mass Tuesday 9:30 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Melville. Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jane’s name to Memorial Sloan Kettering, Attn: Lauren Kelly 885 Second Ave., 7th Floor, NY, NY 10017 would be greatly appreciated.
