Obituary of Eileen B Soviero

Soviero, Eileen B. (nee Scattergood), passed away at 92 on Sunday, July 19 2015. She died in her family home in Huntington, NY, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Huntington, Eileen was born in Huntington Hospital. After graduating from Huntington High School she was a supervising operator at the Huntington telephone company. Shortly after Pearl Harbor, she joined the US Navy as a WAVE and served throughout World War II; at the wars close she returned to family and friends in Huntington. In 1950 she married Joseph Soviero, another Huntington Navy veteran at St. Patrick’s Church. Eileen and Joe owned Soviero’s Delicatessen and later Soviero’s Luncheonette. Eileen and Joe retired in 1985 to enjoy their children and grandchildren. Joe passed away in 1999, while Eileen continued to live in their family home on Lawrence Hill Road until Sunday. Eileen is survived by her four children Daneen, Larry (Mary), Fred (Ronnie) and May Shannon (Dennis). Eleven grandchildren Carol, Stephaine, Theresa, Jacob, Douglas, Emily, Melissa, Elizabeth, Lindyn, Victoria and Jonathan as well as eight great- grandchildren. Eileen’s wonderful life will be remembered in a service to be held at MA Connell’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church at 9:45 Thursday morning. In lieu of flowers, the Soviero family requests that donations be made to VNS and Hospice of Northport or if you would like please plant a tree in Eileen’s memory or make a donation to the National Arbor Foundation.
