Our Dearest "Nanny" -Some time has gone by since your passing. It is your one month anniversary in heaven today and we are missing you more each day. You made life so easy for us. Your forever smile and love for us will never be forgotten. We are so proud and grateful to always be your family. May you continue to guide us from above as we know you are our special little angel. All the stories from Hancock Street will live on. Our hearts are broken without you but we will carry on your spirit. May you reunite with Poppy Ernie, Uncle Farney, and the rest of the DiGiovanni and DiMaio family in Heavan.

Mary DiMaio was an angel on earth for 88 years. Her only job was to make everyone who met her happy. A devoted daughter, she took care of both her parents. The only girl in a family of four, she was a cherished sister who never left her little brother. She had a beautiful marriage and sure loved her Ernie. She had two daughters born on the exact same day-one year apart! She was a wonderful mother and her daughters never left her side. Even her two son in laws thought they hit the jackpot for mother-in-laws. She had three grandchildren and 2 great children--and we are all blessed with this darling woman we called our Nanny. She never disciplined, always made us feel good about ourselves and assured us that everything would be OK. Nanny was the whole family's alarm clock- she would make multiple calls to each household every morning and it was the best wake up call you could ask for. We all overslept the one time she did.
Nanny was always full of laughter and fun stories. Whether she told you with a twinkle in her eye that she was once 6 feet tall (she was well under 5 feet); she was a professional singer, dancer or piano player-- who knew what was true?-- and it didn't matter- because she was hilarious. Her small height practically made her a celebrity and most conversations usually ended with asking her if we could put her in our pocket and carry her around with us. She cooked italian like a pro and made the best coffee on earth-she said her secret was sticking her pinky in it! She had so many friends from so many different places and her home was a daily place for coffee, card games and fun. Her phone never stopped ringing and she loved when we told her how popular and beautiful she was.
Nanny, always with her rosary beads and prayer cards, prayed for hours everyday--for anyone who needed help with anything. Whether someone was sick or I just needed a little extra boost for a big test, she took her role very seriously and many thought she had a direct line to God.
Though life without her will be quiet and sad, we sure knew we had it good with this little gal. And we can all take comfort that she is reunited with her husband, parents and brothers and know she is in Heaven praying for us all.
God Bless our little Angel Mary DiMaio.
