Obituary of Joan Rogan

ROGAN - Joan Sonya, ne Joan Barth, 80, died peacefully on October 30, 2011 in Huntington, NY. Visitation will be held from 7pm-9pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Old First Presbyterian Church, 125 Main St., Huntington, NY at 11am. A private burial will follow. Joan was born November 6, 1930, in Rockville Centre, NY. A former Barbizon model, Joan was a graduate of Malverne High School, where she met her husband of 58 years, Robert Rogan. As a young girl, Joan received hand-illustrated letters from her sea captain grandfather. It was this that sparked her love of art. Though not formerly trained, she had a keen eye for color and form, apparent in all her painting, rug hooking and needlework, but, it was in her gardens that her creative expression and joy flourished. A Huntington resident since 1961, Joan formed lasing friendships and many fond memories. She was a member and former president of Nathan Hale Garden Club, a former member of Huntington Country Club and Centerport Yacht Club, and a realtor at Youngs and Garner and Daniel Gale Realties. Joan's greatest passion was her family; she was delighted to see each of her five children marry and have children of their own. Her warm, inviting home was always touched by her Norwegian heritage and traditions, evident in holiday celebrations and casual Sunday night family dinners. Joan is survived by her husband Robert, their five children: Kim, Charles, John, Robert, and James, their spouses and 13 grandchildren.
