Nick, you will live in my heart as one of the kindest, most patient people I have known. My boys remember their first motorcycle ride on the back of your bright red Pacific Coast bike. You shared your love and the exhilaration of cycling and it made an impression on them. Though they were pretty young, they remember you. You shared your counsel, too, being a voice of reason and understanding. You will be sorely missed.

You were a great friend and scholar. You will be missed by many at Sikorsky. You did not get to finish your plane but you wont need a plane where you are now soaring with the angels.

I did not know Nick, but heard such wonderful things about him from his sister Andrea. She was so proud of him and knew that he and I definitely had at least one thing in common -- love of "Star Trek"! All the memories here are an eloquent tribute to a fellow who was clearly a terrific man. My condolences to his family and friends on this sad loss.

When I was in young I would ride my bike to Nicks and find him in the garage working I was never invited but always welcome as I watched him fix and build everything. I was definitely a pest but he never seemed to mind. He would answer all my questions in a way I could understand and gave me the confidence to try and build and fix things my self. That was the first time an adult spoke to me that way and it had a profound effect on me.

Well, i must say I hardly even knew Nicki, but him being a very close friend and cousin of my friend Otto, I feel I knew him a bit. To Nicki, I was Cheryl, the girl who sent an angel with wings to his cousin who was fighting her own cancer battle. The cousin being my good friend, Otto's sister. I was also Cheryl, cousin Otto's good friend from a support group that Nicki always cheered people on. Our aquaintance was short and brief but I know a good soul when I meet one. Nicki you were a good soul. I didn't get to bring you an angel, but as I prayed for you, I feel it was the angels that didn't let you suffer long. You will be missed. I will send you a smile as I think of you as you did I.

I first met Nick in 1981 when we were both new employees in the engineering department of Sikorsky Aircraft. As an instructor Nick introduced me, a designer, to Computer Aided Design, thereby influencing my subsequent engineering career. During the next 25 years at Sikorsky Nick and I both worked in various groups and on differing programs. At times throughout the years our paths would cross and Nick, very often appearing to be in a great hurry, was always quick to greet me by first name, with an outstretched hand and a smile of recognition on his face. He always took the time to say hello. He had an excellent mind, a wonderful personality and he will be greatly missed.

I first met Nick many years ago when I was learning CADAM, and I'm confident that our design ability was greatly enhanced by his teaching ability and ensuring all his students could exceed the bar. Nick carried that approach to all parts of his life...his hobbies, his friends, and his new work: intense, thorough, caring, and making sure you were up to his speed, all the while without making you feel slow or behind.
I'm saddened and sobered by Nick's passing, but also grateful for the life's lessons we shared together.

I have known Nick for 40+ years. I feel truly blessed that I was fortunate enough to grow up with Nick; my life is more enriched because he was in it. Nick had a great sense of humor, an enviable quick wit, and an endearing personality. Nick is one of those rare individuals who had the abilities to understand and explain the most complex, obtuse technical concepts, and effortlessly, spontaneously utter poetry and sing a Gershwin tune. Nick and I spent many enjoyable days tearing down and rebuilding a VW van engine and riding bicycles around Long Island. We pulled the Gyroscope he built--when we were just 15--behind a car on an unused runway at MacArthur Airport. This was before he and I learned to drive; he convinced our Science teacher in Junior High to drive us. Then with floats he built and installed on the Gyroscope, we pulled it behind Glenn’s boat on Manhasset bay. Only Nick could do that. I recall driving down Main Street in Port Washington in Nick’s VW van when he suddenly swung the van over to the curb, just at a parking meter, stopped the car and proceeded to exit. I asked why were we stopping. Without missing a beat he exclaimed, “I hate to waste money!” There was still money on the meter; he wanted to stop at the hobby store there but did not inform me before hand. That was Nick. Who but Nick, when he intends to add an extension on his house, extends up by adding a floor! And does the work himself! That was Nick.
The World light dimmed a bit when Nick passed, but Heaven brightened tenfold when his spirit settled upon it.

As a young Engineer at Sikorsky 20 years ago, Nick was a mentor to me. Back then, before anyone really spoke of "Standard Work", Nick was the epitome of it. He coached me through developing standard drawing notes, and I can honestly say that to this day I think of him everytime I participate in the crafting of a new note, specification or standard.
Aside from his professionalism, he was a wonderful, warm and positive person and always a joy to speak with. "Many people will walk in and out of your life,
but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart". We will miss you, Nick.

I had the privelage of working with Nick on the CH-53K program for the last 4 years. I remember when I tried to release my first subsystem specification on CH-53K, and Nick found 30 different things wrong with it. I was frustrated at the time, but that was the beginning of many good conversations that I would have with him over the telephone and on email. He was a fine example of how you can take your job seriously while keeping the mood light.

I was totally shocked and saddened to hear of Nick’s passing. Nick taught me CADAM at Sikorsky back in 1984. What I always remember from that class was how patient an instructor he was. He would never leave a topic until he felt everyone in class understood the lesson completely no matter how long it took. He had a manner about him that made you feel like you knew him your whole life. Nick was truly a special person that I will always remember!

I met you back in 1982, and you may not know it, but you had a profound effect on my career. You taught me CADAM, and through that experience, you made me an efficient, attentive designer that knew the meaning of accuracy and completeness. Later on the 53K, we had the opportunity to cross paths again. Knowing you were reviewing the specs was comforting, but there were days I wished they would just get released! ;-) Nick, you were a true gentlemen, one of the good ones. I know you are home now, but knowing that you've left behind so many that love you makes me miss you even more. May God bless you with eternal happiness.

I was so shocked to hear that Nick was so sick! I know he's private, and, if that's what he wanted, then so be it. But he was a friend - a dear frined - and I wish I had had a chance to say something to him directly. To say thanks for all the times he listened, cared, and helped. Nick was genuine, loving, considerate, and giving. And he was funny. He wil be missed so very much!!! The world has lost a truly good man. A man so capable in so many ways. I am truly saddened by this!!
To his family, I know words are as inadequate as can be! How ever in this world can you express what this loss is!?!?! If so many letters and notes have come in, then that is a measure of how very much he was loved by all who knew him. For those of us who have gone through this kind of loss, we know what your pain is!! I know time will soften that pain, and the good memories of his living will be what you think of most. Know he is at peace. This life can no longer inflict pain unpon him. And know that our prayers are with you!!

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell, where his influence stops.” Henry Brooks Adams. Of all the talents Nick possessed, I think his ability to teach on any subject, on any level was his greatest gift. I remember, as if it were yesterday, sitting with him at Mom's (Aunt Fran's) house in Rome, NY, and him explaining the theory of relativity to me when I was 18, and he made it sound so simple. At our most recent family reunion, Nick and I had a wonderful time reconnecting and I will always remember that long conversation as we drove thru the Catskills together. My heart breaks for the loss of a life too soon. May God's peace and grace be on his children and siblings.
1 Peter 1:3-5Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

“And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure . . . And your friends will be properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will say to them, 'Yes, the stars always make me laugh!' And they will think you are crazy. It will be a very shabby trick that I shall have played on you...”
