John  Lusardi , of Woodbury, NY passed away on March 23,2018 in Weymouth, MA at the age of 96.
John was born in Brooklyn, NY on Feb 11, 1922 to Constantino and Ermelinda (Scarsella) Lusardi, moving to a home in Woodbury that same year. John  resided in that home on Woodbury Rd until 2009,
After high  school he worked for Grumman and developed mechanical skills that he would enjoy his whole life. He enjoyed working on cars and antique tractors. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 , serving as a flying electrician on B-29 aircraft in the South Pacific.Returning to Woodbury in 1946, he was appointed as Postmaster of Woodbury by President Truman in 1947. He purchased his parents home and established the Woodbury Post Office on the front porch. He  married Mary Sherwood in 1951 and she joined him in handling the mail in their home. Without any mail carriers in town, everyone came to their home to pick up their mail. John and Mary literally welcomed everyone in town into their home everyday. As their family grew and Woodbury grew , mail carriers were added and the Post Office moved to new quarters across the street in 1963. John continued as Postmaster until he retired in 1979.John's service to community did not end there. He had joined the Woodbury Fire Company in its original Charter in 1942 and celebrated 75 years of service, including Honorary Chief. In 2017 he moved to Massachusetts to be close to his grandsons, daughter and son in law, while he missed Long Island and the fire department friends, it was a wonderful year of family time.John was predeceased by his wife Mary (Sherwood) He is survived by his two children, John Jr. of Hazlet, NJ and Deborah Pennisi (Paul) of Weymouth, MA and grandsons Mark Pennisi (Yve) of Weymouth , MA  and Michael Pennisi of Quincy, MA.
