Obituary of Eleanor T. Murphy

Eleanor T. Murphy died peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 23 after a brief illness at the age of 96. Eleanor was born in New York City in September of 1920 to Martin and Beatrice (nee Kelly) O’Connell, the oldest girl in a family that included three girls and three boys.  She is survived  by her sister  Margaret (Peggy Phelan), 29 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond to whom she was married for 57 years, and her beloved son, Raymond who died in 1980. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, John, Morgan and William O’Connell, and by her sister, Sr. Anna Mae O’Connell, RSM.

Eleanor graduated from Bayside High School and for many years worked as a bookkeeper for the Town of Huntington.  She has lived in her Huntington Station home for over 50 years surrounded by good neighbors and friends.  Eleanor is known for her devotion to family, friends, and for her unshakeable Catholic faith.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Elizabeth’s of Hungary’s Outreach program, or VNA Hospice of Northport.
