Obituary of Gregory Thomas Farley

Farley, Gregory Thomas, 86, of Melville on April 23, 2016. Beloved husband of Louise for over 55 years. Devoted father of Irene (Richard) Greco, Ann Marie Coyle, Catherine (Steve) Gehman, and the late John. Cherished grandfather of 7. Visitation Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Mass Saturday 9 am at St. Patrick’s RC Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s research foundation (www.alzfdn.org) in his name. Dear Family and Friends, Two years ago my dear dad could no longer be cared for at home and had to be admitted into a nursing home. Our family knew it was the right decision, but it did not make it any less agonizing to release him to the care of strangers. My fear gave way to this writing. My hope was that his new caretakers would read it and gain an understanding of how special he was and treat him with the dignity and respect he deserved. Slowly, I released him and began to trust God with his life. I will always appreciate my mother's faithful visits to feed, wash, talk and sing to him. And, of course, there was the gem head nurse, Mary, on the day shift who has earned crowns in heaven for the way she treated both my mom and dad. On Saturday morning, April 23, 2016, my father, Greg Farley died. I will cherish the great privilege of sitting vigil at his bedside and comforting him as he readied for his safe passage to his new life in a home God prepared for him. I hope this writing will serve well as my eulogy for my dear daddy - the safest person in my life.
