Obituary of Fred Johannes Erichsen

Please share a memory of Fred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Erichsen, Fred Johannes, 47, of Cold Spring Harbor, suddenly on January 28, 2016. Beloved husband of Susan. Loving father of Patrick, Thomas, Elizabeth and his napping buddies Checkers and Holly – the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Dear son of Fritz and Alma. Cherished brother of Ingrid Swilling, Maren (Robert) Browne, and Heidi (James) Rochford. Devoted son-in-law of Robert and Sharon Stokes. Caring brother-in-law of Shannon (Gino) Rea and Sean (Barbara) Stokes. Loving uncle to Kevin, David and Jason Swilling; Brian and John Rochford; Greta and Annika Browne; Dominic and Dillon Rea; and Charles, Kate, William and Edison Stokes. Fred loved his family tremendously and loved sharing his passions of hockey, fishing and the beach. He was a fan of all sports and made many special memories with the kids at New York Islanders games, NCAA basketball tournaments and just sitting in the den eating wings and watching football on the rare Sundays when he was not at a rink cheering them on at their travel hockey games. Fred was an avid hockey player and treasured his time as goalie in net with the Seahawks Men’s Hockey Team, at tournaments in Montreal and during countless games with his friends at The Huntington Winter Club. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and found much joy in taking the family on vacations that included a fishing trip along the way. One of the most cherished outings in Nassau, Bahamas this past summer netted some amazing catches that ended up on the dinner plate. He was at the beach as often as his busy schedule allowed and found great peace and relaxation at West Neck Beach, Sanibel Island and Second Beach in Newport, RI. He devoted over 25 years to his Boar’s Head Distributorship – Erichsen Provisions, carrying on the reputable company that his father Fritz started more than 50 years ago. Fred was dedicated and committed to his customers and always went the extra mile to ensure they received superior service. Fred graduated from Cold Spring Harbor High School in 1987 and was proud to pass that opportunity on to his children. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1991 with a BA in Economics and was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. His college basketball team, the Rhody Rams, also brought him much happiness and he loved watching them play with the family. Visitation Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Funeral Mass Monday 9:45 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, donations to a college fund to be set up for his children in Fred’s memory would be greatly appreciated. Donations may be sent to P.O. Box 80, Huntington, NY 11743.
