Marjory “Midge” Thompson passed peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on July 7, 1939, she lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and a deep respect for every human being she encountered.

Growing up in Hollis Queens, the daughter of Paul and Beatrice Lorenzen, Midge graduated from Mary Louise Academy All Girls High School and went on to earn a secretarial degree and an associate degree from Suffolk County Community College. After school, she worked for American Airlines, raised a Family in South Huntington New York and then worked and supported her husbands business as his right hand and bookkeeper at Thompson Agency. She and Alan were married for 65 beautiful years, and built a life centered on love, partnership, service and Faith.

A lifelong champion of human dignity, Midge marched in the civil rights movement in the early 1960s, including in Washington, D.C. In more recent years, she served as director of St. Elizabeth’s homeless initiative, where she personally brought undocumented individuals out of the woods in the cold of winter, offering them warmth, respect, and care. She volunteered for numerous human rights organizations throughout her life, always guided by the simple principle of treating every person with decency and compassion. She never kept score. She only cared about respecting life, whoever it was.

To her family, she was simply the heart of everything. She was the devoted mother of Cynthia Lynn and Christopher Alan Thompson, the loving grandmother of Brielle, Andrew, Brooke, and Lucas, and the proud great-grandmother of Harper. She was also “Mom” and caregiver to countless fur babies over the years, notably Butch, Skipper and Buck. An amazing gift-giver with a special touch, Midge had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Many considered her their mother too, drawn to her empathy, warmth, and maternal presence.

In her final days, even as she endured significant suffering, Midge gave her family the profound gift of connection. We believe she stayed with us to greet her grandson from his 1 year deployment in the Middle East. A goal that was achieved when Lucas returned to her bedside Tuesday night. Also, In quiet moments in the hospital and hospice, she communicated with clear statements of “I love you too” and gentle acknowledgements of hearing our shared stories about her wonderful life. These were reminders that love breaks through even the hardest of times. 

Midge was one of the most decent people many of us have ever known. She is now at peace in Heaven with God, reunited with loved ones who went before her, and she will live forever in the hearts of everyone whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her husband Alan Joseph Thompson, her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and a community that will always remember her as “Everyone’s Mom.”
