Roger E. Moore, age 83, of Bayville and Melville, New York, passed away on July 9, 2026 after a long illness.

Roger was born in 1942 in Brooklyn, the son of Mary Moore. He graduated from Manual Training High School in Park Slope and then went on to study at Dodge City Community College and the University of Richmond, where he played football. He earned a bachelor’s degree from John Jay College and was a New York City Police Officer and U.S. Army Reservist, retiring after more than 25 years of service with the NYPD and more than 30 years with the Reserves.

A talented athlete, Roger excelled at baseball and football as a youth and later took up running, golf, tennis, and sailing. He completed multiple marathons and was also a physical fitness instructor at the NYPD’s Police Academy.

He is survived by his daughter, Dotty; his partner, Joan Phillips; his siblings Ronald (Sallie), Maureen (Dave), Michael, Randall (Cindy), Donna, and Margaret (Bobby); his partner’s children Nancy, Donna (John), and Debbie (Chris); and a large extended family that he cherished. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary, his brother, Richard, his nephew, Jesse, and his brother-in-law, George. A devoted father, partner, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, he will be missed.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17th from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave, Huntington Station. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 18th at 9:30am at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 175 Wolf Hill Rd, Melville.
