Peter L. Romano Obituary
Peter Romano was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 30, 1956, and spent his entire life in Huntington, New York. He attended St. Patrick’s School and graduated from Holy Family High School in 1975. Although school presented many challenges for him, Peter persevered. Through determination and years of hard work, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the New York Institute of Technology, an accomplishment of which he was immensely proud.
Peter worked for the Town of Huntington for 13 years as an Automotive Equipment Operator, performing maintenance work. It was the perfect job for him because it allowed him to do what he loved most—talk with people. He never met a stranger and enjoyed every conversation.
Music was one of Peter’s greatest passions. He loved playing the trumpet and performed with several bands over the years, including the Northport Community Band. In his younger years, he was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and enjoyed marching in many local parades. He always looked forward to dressing up and being part of those special community traditions.
Peter’s friends could often be found among the local merchants he visited regularly. Whether chatting with his auto mechanic, the deli clerk, the staff at his favorite pizzeria, or medical professionals, he genuinely enjoyed getting to know people. If you knew Peter, you never forgot him.
Peter was a simple man with a kind heart and a deep love for animals. He was an avid sports fan who faithfully cheered for the New York Giants, New York Knicks, New York Yankees, and New York Islanders. He was also a lifelong Beatles fan. One of his favorite outings was attending performances by the 1964 Tribute Band at The Paramount, where he enthusiastically sang along. He had a wonderful singing voice.
He is survived by his sister, Carol Billings; his niece, Christa Billings; and his nephew, Patrick Billings. Peter was incredibly proud of each of them and took great joy in all they accomplished.
Peter faced many struggles throughout his life, but he met each challenge with determination and always did his very best. We loved him for exactly who he was, and he will be deeply missed.
