Garrett "Gary" Chelius, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday April 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. 

Born on October 8, 1941, in Queens, New York, Gary was the son of Andrew and Esther Chelius. He was raised alongside brothers, George and Greg, and his sister, Geraldine. 

Gary married his beloved wife, Anne, in November 1965, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and devotion. He was a proud and dedicated father ot Garrett, Genevieve, Ginette, Geronimo, and Geremy, and a cherished grandfather to 16 grandchildren, all of whom brought him great pride and joy. 

Gary honroably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He had a passion for working with this hands and could often be found fixing cars, boats, or anything that needed repair. He also loved spending time on the water where he felt most at peace. 

A devoted family man, Gary was a constant and supportive presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He rarely missed a game or event and could always be found on the sidelines, cheering them on with pride. 

He loved his community, spending hours upon hours helping with beach and dock and maintenance and repair. He also served many years on the community board. 

Gary will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his unwavering dedication to his family, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Anne; his five children; Garrett, Genevieve, Ginette, Geronimo, Geremy, his 16 grandchildren; Catarina, Christopher, Andrew, Casey, Ciaran, Ryan, Conall, Megan, Ted, Dylan, Lucy, Saylor, Charleston, Wellington, Littlefoot, and Greyson, and his siblings; Geraldine, and Greg. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew, and Esther, and brother George.
