Raymond V DiScala Obituary
Raymond V. DiScala passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 5, 1942, in Queens, New York, and raised in New Hyde Park, he was the second of four children of the late Francis and Antoinette DiScala. He was predeceased by his sister, Rosemary Fagiola, and is survived by his brother, Francis DiScala, and his sister, Joann Nicholas. Ray is also survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Arlene DiScala (Samet); his loving children, Mindy DiScala of Delray Beach, Florida, Todd DiScala and his wife, Marilena, of Laurel Hollow, New York, and Cristy Buckholtz and her husband, Martin, of Centerport, New York; and his five cherished grandchildren, MJ and Peyton Buckholtz, Chris and Nick DiScala, and Chloe DiScala.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Raymond was a man of immense warmth, integrity, and wit, bringing joy and laughter to everyone who knew him. After serving as an altar boy in his youth, he went on to excel at Hofstra University, where he earned both his BA and MBA and served with distinction as the captain of the football team. It was there on the sidelines that he met the love of his life, Arlene, a cheerleader for the team and, in his eyes, the most beautiful girl in the world. He honorably served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army before embarking on a distinguished career in finance, eventually retiring as a Managing Director of institutional sales at Merrill Lynch. An avid golfer, marathon runner, and natural athlete, Ray remained a lifelong lover of sports who found joy in the spirit of competition and the camaraderie of the game. He will be deeply missed by the family he championed and the many friends who were touched by his kindness and infectious humor.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, New York. A funeral mass will be held at 9:45 AM on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Church of St. Patrick, 400 West Main Street, Huntington, New York, followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 45 Huntington Road, Huntington, New York.
